I'm going to purchase a budget crankset for my bike & I was thinking of getting either one of the two. Can you guys suggest which one is better? or should I go instead for a Hussefelt? They are all almost alike in price. My bike is leaning towards to being a freeride bike.. I'd really like to hear your suggestions.

the two are the same level and the same quality, but FSA is cheaper so its ok to get that, also, FSA items are now on sale because the hans-gee will stop importing and are just disposing of the left overproducts, which makes it a lot cheaper than the firex V drives on sale for 2500, pm me

same here. got a truv firex with isis bb from all terra. No problems, at least none yet. Good value for money and its reasonably light too.
But if youre gonna be freeriding, the hussefelt or holzfeller would be better, I guess. If you dont mind the weight, the strength is obviously better than the firex.

Thanks all for your advice! I ended up getting a ’05 LX crank accidentally while scouting around Quiapo. When I should have saved my money & gotten a Fire X or V-Drive! It just tempted me when I weighed it & how the Bottom Bracket was integrated on it. Although I couldn’t seem to find the ball bearings on the bloody thing, must be integrated somewhere.

Hi Fullspeed, This is based on 175mm long crank arms: FSA V-Drive ISIS 22/32/44 (2003) - 730 grams, (2004) - 650 grams without crankbolts. FSA Platinum 68 X 113 ISIS - 225 grams Shimano LX (2005) including BB - 935 grams for the whole assembly. Truvativ Firex Team ISIS 22/32/44 (2004) - 662 grams, no cranks fixing bolts. Truvativ GIGAPIPE SL LT ISIS 68/73 x 113 - 249 grams without bolts.

The Shimano LX'05 crankset were noticebly a LOT lighter than the FireX & V-Drive. After weighting the FireX & LX with my hands, I'd definitely say the LX was increadibly light. Sorry I didn't get to weight it on a scale. I installed it the instant I got back to my bike. Here's a short observation I can say about the LX: 1) The crank arms are beefier than the Shimano '04 models. (Giving it a "macho" fat look) 2) The price is P1,800++ more than the FireX & V-Drive w/BB. 3) The LX'05 is a lot lighter than FireX & V-Drive. 4) The spindle is integrated & seems to be fatter than the standard spindle, making it much more rigid. 5) Nothing special with the chain rings, just looks the same with the '04 models. If you want a light & "Macho" looking crankset get the LX'05 cranks. But spending P4,500++ on the integrated cranks is a LOT!!! You might want an economical alternative.. Get a FireX or V-Drive (use your old BB if isis) & spend your extra cash on the LX '05 dual control shifters. You'd get 2 new toys for almost the price of 1 LX'05 crank. ;D
