I've been riding an 03 KHS XC 504r for a little bit over a year. Do mostly Santa Rosa and Muntinlupa trails on weekends and on the road around my village every other weekday.
My LBS recently found a crack on a weld point of the pivot. This was apparently a common problem with my frame according to mtbr.com
I am looking for a new frame that can be ridden more aggressively (and can accomodate a "heavier" rider). I prefer something that would relatively have the same geometry as my khs. what do you guys suggest. So far these are what people have beein suggesting. what do you guys think?
1. Santa Cruz Heckler 2. Jamis Dakar XLT 3.0 3. Salsa Caballero 4. Giant Reign 1 5. Trek Fuel 6. Yeti 575
Lightweight blend with long travel will be a major deciding factor.
Thanks. (btw i'm also looking for an HT frame for village rides and road trips)

Go for Hekler... this frame will take any beating and accomodate a heavy rider.

Heckler is a good frame for a trailbike build. Pero remember that it is a single pivot design like a Cannondale and some Foes. The best way to climb with a single pivot is to sit your butt on the saddle, drop to the granny and spin. If you stand, it will bob. BAD. If you go to a tall gear, it will bob too. What I am trying to say is, if you are a hammerhead, a single pivot bike might not be right for you. But if you are content to sit there and spin while your friends kill themselves, then the Heckler is perfect.

Trailbike?
If you can get an '04 Specialized Enduro w/ brain and a Fox talas fork...look no further ;D ;D ;D
Climbs like a goat, adjustable travel, and smoothens the fast tech stuff, handles like a hardtail on the single-track. MBAction's trailbike of the year in '04
p.s. admit i'm biased...but i wouldn't trade my enduro for any other FS out there hehehe

parang olats ata yung 575 dun sa heckler sa 575 vs. heckler thread... hmmmm.... anyway the read on the 575 is real good. if you have the chance try every bike on your list muna, and some others that aren't (like gulli's enduro) ;D and make a decision there. i searched long and hard and tested dozens of bikes before deciding on the heckler. do your research as well. its well worth the time spent. asses the riding that you do and the riding that you will want to do with the next bike. all the frames mentioned here are more or less mistake proof IMO.

it's all about FIT. u can install every concievable technology into the bike but it doesn't fit you then it's useless... i agree w/ gwm... any of the ones here, u can't go wrong. hmmm. btw, the one he broke... it is a single pivot, so the heckler will probably have similar feel. wala bang warranty yan?

:)This is a great thread! Keep it going. I'm in the market for a good trailbike myself. BTW, I think there is a second hand 04 Enduro with brain shock on sale at Dan's Bike Shop on EDSA. Maybe anyone interested can check it out...unless nabili na.
I'm leaning towards the Yeti575 also (para medyo iba). Problem is, may local dealer ba dito? Or imported direct pa yan?

Thanks for the info! But I decided to get a Salsa Caballero from All Terra.
This is supposed to be an XC frame but why is it listed under the trailbike section of MBA Buyers guide on March Issue?

Hey Raf, But the 575 brad doesnt fit your riding requirement, the Heckler is still more appropriate for your riding style .

will post some pics of the Caballlero as soon as i find the time to snap some. Anyway I also got a Manitou Minute 1 fork on it now together with my XT group set and Avid Mech disc brakes and Mavic Crossmax wheelset from my old bike. Did'nt get to ride it on dirt yet so I'm looking forward to this weekend's ride!
I'll post some updates later...
