Am curious too. Am on shimano 525 hubs. Any fatboy owners out there? Am itching to switch to sealed bearings ... i'll just change the sealed bearings to SKF bearings sold in auto supplies if it would fit.

I'm a 178 pounder. Since Shimano has not produced sealed bearing hubs, I'm opting to use Fatboy sealed bearings which I believe would stand more of my weight (178 lbs = Fatboy). Changing to high quality bearings would do as oceanrider88 mentioned. I bet there would be available size out there in the market. Any mythbusters out there who could clear things for us? Which is which people?

i owned those two hubs. before i used deore. but didnt last me that long not even for a year. i used it on my urban/dj rig (sometimes i take it for xc)... after it broke i shifted to xt..i sold the xt to a friend and used a fatboy instead... im happy with the fatboy. sealed bearing, beefy look. i have it on my hardtail rig. when im in bad days with my Fulsus DH rig, i ride DH whith my urban rig to get the rhythm back... bottomline: FATBOY over DEORE on durability and looks. on weight, i guess DEORE's on top. But i much prefer FATBOY

Fatboy hubs is good for weight saving rider. Good for xc trail ride but bad for overweight rider since the only weakness of this
hub is the aluminum axle which snap eitheir side of it.
While the shimano hubs uses steel axle for strong and durable....only downside/penalty is weight compared to fatboy.
Fatboy user feel no worry if you broke your axle since it can be fabricated to steel or stainless.
While shimano steel axle need no replacement they don't have replacement axle.

I'm using fatboy hubs eversince, that was four years now.. and yet, stiil spinning.. i had just replaced the bearings with SKF bearings and repacked it every quarter.. fatboy is very durable.. i have used it on trails like in maarat and even soaked it in puray a couple of times and on countless jumps.. buhay pa din.. especially my rear hubs.. ;D

I just switched to Fatboy hubs from M475s and I've put in a couple of hundred kilometers on them from new. During this time I found that they spin well (better than the 475s in any case) when unobstructed by rotors rubbing against brake pads and, they seem seem to be taking my 200+ lbs in stride (so far). However, after a Tagaytay ride last Sunday and a mega uphill Canyon Woods ride yesterday, I noticed that the rear hub was loose (side to side play). I had to partially take it apart to see what was wrong and I was relieved to find that I only had to re-tighten the end caps (I actually thought the bearings warped). This seems to have fixed the problem but we'll see... For now, I'm giving these hubs the benefit of the doubt and writing it up to the fact that I'm still breaking them in.
I am worried about the aluminum axles though...
By the way, I wonder why there doesn't seem to be any information on these hubs on the Internet?

ung fat boy sealed bearing while shimano deore bearing type What are the difference of the two mentioned above? Bad experience with FATBOYS as well, I'd go SHIMANO any day if FATBOY was the other option. Sealed bearing's weakness is moisture problem. Once its in its dead; SHIMANO cup and ball type, repack! YES! ;D

sealed bearing cost only around P80 to P150 a piece depending on the size. get the better quality bearings and it will last.
