last Sunday April 6, 2008 i rode my second SS up to Tagaytay alone. i started at 2:30 AM and reached the rotunda at about 8:30 AM roughly six hours. pedalled all the way from Valenzuela. it was my first time really and found it very relaxing. my combo set up was 34 x 17, left at around half past twelve, and arrived at Valenzuela at around 6:30. My reason for going there was to meet the biking priest from Davao Fr. Amado Picardal, he is cycling from Davao to Aparri and back to Davao. it is my second SS running tensionerless. at first i thought it would be difficult but when i entered the zone everything was a breeze, the last 10 KM up to Tagaytay was the longest 10 KM that i rode in my entire life, but just the same i did made it. buses in the Bacoor -Imus at Aguinaldo highway were unforgiving.

Big congrats as well. I ride 32x16 (so same 2:1 ratio as yours) and at this infantile stage of uh SS/leg power development - would probably cramp all over and walk the bike all the way to Rotunda from Silang. I will remember your ordeal as inspiration if I manage to muster the courage to use my SStreet rig for a Tags ride.

Thank you, alphabolt. Actually i was in Tagaytay April 3 Thursday to drive for my sister. On the way home to Valenzuela my wife said she saw a signage saying Manila 50+ kms. Our place in Valenzuela is near the 17 km marker, thats from the Rizal monument in Luneta. So that would be roughly 70 kms one way. Lots of motorcycles and roadies going up to Tagaytay that Sunday morning, i seem to loose hope when each one of them overtakes me, but then its a journey not a race i said to myself to pacify me. And also, i was planning to attend the TLBF, and bike all the way to Subic, but due to budget constraints had to cancel the plan. I had even prepared my 20 and 21 cogs if ever somebody convinces me to race the SS category there. Lastly, i may have missed meeting you guys from PinoyMTBiker at Subic but i did meet a cool guy Fr. Picx's in Tagaytay. BTW, i have no bicycle computer so my distance are just estimates based on kilometer markings and signages. Till da next time brad.

Congrats Bobby!!! thank you Bruce , know whats wrong with me? gone cuckoo due to the intense heat this past few days and the lack of oxygen in my brain. mind you im not a strong rider as you have seen my pacing when you overtook me the first time we met. But i did not find the Tagaytay ride painful but rather "nakakainip" (it seemed decades) . and yeah sometimes i am a sadomasochist!

I will remember your ordeal as inspiration if I manage to muster the courage to use my SStreet rig for a Tags ride. Thanks man. i have plans of building a SS running on that combination but luck isn't on my side as the frame i have will be needing a tensioner to achieve that combo. 32x16 would be great because it would be efficient for climbing because of the smaller crank ring, more ground clearance for off-road, and a tad lighter in weight. for now that will be in my dream combo. me i don't have power in my legs, just sheer determination to do personal bests (what i do is promise my daughters and the wifey that i'll do this and that in time) it works for me. yeah, cramps are really a bummer, but very seldom do i have them. man, the Silang to the rotunda was really the longest 10 kilometers of sustained uphill i have ever done, what i did was count each km marker as i pass by and never looked up and enjoyed the coffee trees by the road side. both my SS are Street MeSSenger set-up with high volume tyres the 2.4 variant. one is full rigid while the second has suspension fork installed in it. COURAGE and DETERMINATION my friend are the key factors. my 18.25 Php opinion.(cost of NFA rice nowadays)
