i suggest you do. malaria is still endemic out there. don't fall victim to it just like the son of Rey Langit who went there i dont know what part of Palawan, and then tragedy struck, they got the dreaded disease. malaria tablets are taken daily before going and while you are there in the place you are visiting. travel advisory in the Philippines require tourists to take anti-malaria just to be on the safe side.

Yes sir! It's called prophylaxis. In the seamans clinic that I am connected with we give a drug called Doxicycline to seamen who will be assigned in areas that are endemic for malaria such as Africa. The prophylaxis however will not make you immune to malaria but will lower the severity of the disease.
Palawan has some sort of customer service/information center regarding malaria and I think prophylactic meds are available in this place and they will also inform you the high risk areas for malaria. I think they claim that Puerto Princesa isn't. I'm not sure if Mindoro has such an information center.
Better to err on the safe side even if I know a lot of people who go in and out of Palawan without any prophylaxis. Another thing that I advise my friends who ride is to get a Tetanus and Flu Vaccination. I'm a General Surgeon so my information is not up there as compared to an Infectious doctor.
Ride Safe!

You need not take anti-malaria pills if you are just staying in Puerto Princesa City, unless you are going to stay overnight in the mountains outside of the city. Rey Langit's son contracted malaria in Rizal, Palawan, approximately 300 kilometers from the city, when they hiked eight hours into the mountains going to the Tau't Bato area.
Malaria mosquito only comes out at night, so the proper protection is that you sleep inside the mosquito net, as what we do, whenever we are in the mountains. Anyway for your peace of mind, prophylaxis is readily available here.
If you intend to bike here, you can get in touch with us so we can bring you along for our weekend rides or even the weekday rides.

palawaneagle-Thanks for the heads up. My wife went there last year and loved the place, her group was even treated out by Hagedorn. She was also informed that Puerto Princesa is safe from Malaria.

You can also wear those MOSRepel bracelets. I try to wear one whenever I ride, even just in Maarat or Sta. Rosa, just to be safe. (not just from malaria, but also from the dreaded dengue) They sell some in Sabak Sports in Makati. Or checkout the website at: mosrepel.multiply.com
