At 6 PM I stepped out to go for a evening ride on my Trek. As I was going to my van to get my riding gear, I noticed the door was open. I could see that someone had went through everything in the front. The most important things missing to me were my helmet, heart monitor, riding skull cap, and both sets of riding gloves. My Giant was in the back. Obiviously, and fortunate for me the thief was in a hurry.
A dark blue Giro Atmos II will not be hard to notice in this town. This is my helmet that has traveled to Manila twice.
P.S. This seemed like the most appropiate place to post.

make no mistake about it, dont leave your stuff unlocked and in plain sight, even in neighborhoods you think are very safe. In our small subdivision (of around 40 houses) where everyone knows each other and which I considered quite safe, we used to leave our car doors and house doors unlocked during the day. One morning, after my parents left, someone casually strolled in, went straight to my parents room and stole jewelry and some cash. No one discovered the crime until my parents came back later and saw the trashed room. Tsk.

Yes, it has been a good neighborhood for the 23 years I have lived here. The neighbors car was broken into also. If it was in Chicago everything would be gone.
It is a fact of life arcireyes. I am fortunate the thief left the bike and RC car. Maybe it is the bad carma I get for marrying such a good wife. I haven't even got the trip and marrage paid for yet.
I have no backup helmet brionne, so I will have to wait to get one. I have not talked myself into riding without a helmet yet.

Don't talk yourself into riding with out a helmet Ed. Not worth it. I've experienced biking there and there are some crazy motorists. Btw, whereabouts in IL are you? I used to bike along several trails west of Chicago in DuPage County, as recent as a year ago when I was working for an insurance brokerage.

sad to hear that, ED. the audacity of theives nowadays is surprising, as COBYM said they're usually casual about it, walang takot (no fear).

I live 130 miles west of Chicago in a little town called Kewanee. There is some great MTb trails south of me around Peoria. I work in the Quad Cities, but the only MTB trail there is on a small island in the Mississippi. I agree. People worry about deer, dogs and mountain lions attacking bikers. I tell them the most dangerous are the caged animals. Cagers are what we cyclests call people in cars.

I lived in Glen Ellyn then Naperville for sometime. I'll let you know if I'll be there this year, I usually drive to Peoria to visit cousins when I'm in IL. But come back soon and stay safe.
