Pools of water, from light rain, from drainage problem, from car wash... are to be taken with caution. I bludgeoned my chin, smashed my knee, broke my cellphone, dented my PDA titanium casing, to name a few. Scratches, too many to mention! That's why helmet, gloves, arm warmers are important safety clothing!

Here is a road puddle trick I learned a long while back, whenever possible approach a puddle or pool of water on the road perpendicular to the ground, if you can avoid pedalling while traversing the length of the puddle so much the better particularly because the slight movements we make while pedalling moves the little contact patch we have on the road to the less-traction section of our tires.
It is still possible to ride light rain safely on a regular basis with proper choice of tires, If you use knobbies chances are you will have a difficult time riding a slippery road because of the limited rubber contacting the road, you could opt to deflate tire pressure a bit so the knobs ride a little flat. The best tires for our weather are still the nimbus (reverse thread pattern, not slicks) preferrably a little wider than 1.5 for best rubber contact.
Remember ride safe!

thats the same thing that happen when you ride a road bike on a light rain. if your tires cannot take the tracktion on the road they could slip and you get a fall. and also this can happen to motor bikes and cars as well. the best way you can do, ride on a slow speed, approximately 10-15 kph. so that the tire will take its time to roll on wet surface.

arm warmers help a lot specially when you crash. are these the thin fabric that the motorbike drivers use? where do you get one??? Yep. Same as motobikers and jeepney drivers use. The cheap ones cost around P100 on the sidewalks. The ANATOMIC brand cost around P150 at your local bike shop. I got a pair of each. The secret of washing these things (gloves too), so that they don't fade or wear out too fast, is to use mild soap instead of detergents.

avoid stagnant water as well. I was doing 5 kph when i skid. luckily, my butt broke my fall! I was also wearing gloves so i stood up unscathed.
