A refreshing take on the Pinoy's dream to get a visa, hilarious but with a serious undertone. Takes you on a rollercoaster ride through Philippinne culture with host of endearing characters, like Jess Huson (it's Huson, not Hussein). who comes from the town of Sexmoan, and dreams of being a caregiver in the US). His ex-gf who plays a mermaid in the local carnival (do mermaids catch cold?). The entire story takes place during Holy Week, a nicec backdrop showcasing the country's sense of religiousness coupled with superstition and folklore (there was a nightclub in the movie that refused to serve meat during Holy Week . . . )
I'm too tired to write a full review, so just check it out a youtube (I like it so much I'm buying a VCD when I get back to Manila)
I'll just highlight some really funny moments . . .
======================
After Jess and some of the hotel's bellboys catch a thief, they bring the American in to see him, in which the following occurs
Jess: Boss Nigel, we're really sorry with what happend to you and your camerabag. We're really ashamed. Tourist is very important to us, because tourists mean jobs. You need justice for this offense. Ok? Go ahead, don't shy.
Nigel: What do you mean?
Jess: Please, box him.
Nigel: What do you mean box him?
Jess: Box him, like this. (he punches the thief in the stomach)
Nigel: I'm not gonna do this.
Bellboy One: Yes, that magnanakaw bad, teach him lesson.
Jess: It's not fair, he steal you. C'mon, box him.
Bellboy2: yes, hit him, justice for tourism
And they go on trying to make Nigel hit the thief. Once he's done . . .
Jess: Now we call the lespu.

At the American Embassy
Consul: Why do you want to go to the US?
Applicant: Because I want to see snow all my life
Consul: But it says here you're going to Hawaii . . .
