after arriving in Ormoc City from Cebu at past 5pm, I planned to fire to Bato with my luggage at my back, and the distance is 86kms based on PasawayL's book Cycling Philippines by the Bugoy Bikers. I saw a bike shop in Ormoc named Rex's and they did even waved at me.
The trail is mostly cemented streets and heaps of bridges, and mostly rural and undeveloped places. I started firing at Aviles Ave. It was an endless roads with few lightpost which made me worry. As per Lawrences advice he told that I can fire any towns of Leyte except for Mahaplag because it is an NPA-infested area. at about 645pm i arrived the town of Albuera, Albuera is a sleepy town and people depend on fishing as a livelihood and of course an endless roads made of cement. At 9pm I arrived the next town called Baybay and it was made a city recently. A rude awakening happened, I got flat after I passed to the town proper. Since it is my habit to bring my tools during the rides I was able to fix my tire, with the townspeople watching at me, I had a good conversations as even though language barrier does really exist and its unavoidable since I can only understand few basic Bisayan words, after i fix my tire, i decided to make a pitstop in Baybay because lighting conditions is not good and check-in in a pension house, it cost 500 bucks and the facility is not bad at all I locked my bike in the receptionists station and i had a good night sleep.
I woke up at 6am and they served me breakfast of Longsilog. At 7am i started to fire and bridge counting continues, before firing I stopped by at a bike shop name Bohol to have my tires filled up wiht air. At this time I enjoyed the beautiful sceneries, they have a lot to offer, beaches, coconut trees, etc. I dont even feel the weight of my bag! the Kodakan continues even though some of the townspeople do not know how to operate a digicam. I arrived finally in Bato at 11:30 in the morning. I was welcome by mama Edna my former Yaya who happens to be like a family member already we feasted with Pancit cooked by her. I love her Pancit a lot and she is always cooking it for me when I was a kid. I took a swim in the beach which is near her place to relax. Thats the story of the Ormoc-Bato ride. I was supposed to plan to bike to Tacloban but I have decided it to cancel it already. I might plan to bike around Southern Leyte if the weather conditions will allow me. I cant beleve that I can overcome the long road due to the weather as well because it was raining all the way.
