“Good morning”…..Morning!......, good morning!..... A familiar sound we used to hear going up the hills of Silang, Cavite. Its only in these places where mountain bikers get greeted by the residents, commuters, and most specially the little kids. It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is, morning, afternoon or even at night, they’ll just say “good morning” . Really makes you feel at home in such an unfamiliar territory.
So when the idea of having a Christmas party pop up our minds, we all agreed to spent it with these kids by playing the role of Santa…. well not on a slay but on a bike what else! . It would be much better having reindeers pulling us up the cardiac hill but unfortunately in this country, there are only goats around so we’d rather try it as usual, using our own sugar (glucose) and calories to power up our two legs having to carry kilos load of goodies.
We manage to take off at Paseo around 8AM. Yes its late and its not they usual 7 AM take off time for us. Mechanical trouble is hitting everyone here, there and everywhere. Flats, broken chains, even broken derailure hangers on the way but these won’t keep us from bringing a simple smile to the kids at our favorite trail.
Christmas is really for the kids. I used to wonder if I would ever feel that strange gladness I used to have when I was about the same age as these kids. How come when I got older, I don’t feel it anymore. Well you know what? …one thing I discovered … it felt very much the same last Saturday, only this time I am the one giving it.
