just curious, did anyone actually tried to race downhill, or tested v-brakes on downhill rigs?
what happened? to the pads, to the rims, to the sidewalls, to the tires, to the rider?

Downhillers dont use their brakes for stopping , they use it for control and speed shaving

And stopping ...este...speed shaving using Vees can surprise you as being powerful..specially when you use Ceramic coated rims + ceramic compound pads I once thought that the tires were in danger of exploding once you apply hard braking on Vees but ...think of it...roadies bomb down hills and mountains with their rim-type caliper brakes ! Those Vees, tubes and Tires can take the heat DHers...we do hit the brakes before turning and slow down over loose areas specially off camber spots Only Pros dont use their brakes heheh you should see my phonevid stream of Joey Barba down the rockies at Sipalay ...superb!

i remember in my BMX days there's a MX track in longlong, la trinidad, benguet near baguio where after a jump drop of about 2 storys high then immediatly there's a sharp curve which if you over shoot it there's a cliff!!!!!!!! and they use it as a BMX track also and we use vees before!!!!!
well you really have to brake hard for that!!!! and we had no problem with those vees!!!!!!

V brakes became obselete in dh with the introduction disc brakes
more freindly with your fingers/hands on dh runs
as mount g said you can see the v brake boss holes on old boxxer magnesium lowers
and eventually removed on the 05 and 06 models.
and old DH Frames used to have holes for v brake bosses for the rear and now no more
thats what we call evolution.
have'nt tried v brakes on dh,
started with mech disc breaks and now hydros.
