I'm still a big fan of Johnny T but I would consider him the best all around racer of all time... There are better downhillers and better XC riders but none that can do both as well as Tomac...

I agree with my boy JT. Although Nico was a great DHiller and a phenom athlete, he isn't as smooth as JT. I was also never a big fan of Shaun Palmer or Cedric Gracia. Point and shoot type riders. JT and BLopes has my vote for all time smoothness DHillers. If you have the chance, try and get a hold of an old MTB movie called Tread/Retread- Johnny T has a solo session that is classic JT. On second thought, Marla Streb pre pregnancy is arguably the best looking downhiller...

man. . . Nicolas is not smooth ! ? d@mn, 10x world champion, I'm sure he will not go back to racing if his not prepared, I'm sure his more prepared than those DH racers now coz he knows their skills so he will surpass that skills.

Johnny T was smooth during his time. Doing DH and XC at his time is more doable. And it was still physically possible because courses are not that technical than today.
It was the early stage they could use same bikes for DH and XC that time, with minor changes. He even tried using drop bars of his road bike one time on a DH race.
Nico Vouilloz is very smooth till the present. DH tracks right now are technical: very rocky sections, big gap jumps and big drops...DH WC are more demanding than before...
Also right now, it is not physically possible to compete XC and DH at the same time. XC is an endurance sport whereas DH and 4X is a sprinters sport. You can't excel in do both. Especially, if your competitors are training hard in their respective descipline.
