your coming from what kind of riding style before? do you plan on upgrading your current bike or purchasing a new one? the painfull part of going dh is the parts are really quite expensive even on the budget side of it.. but frankly if you have the guts to go HT with DH courses just to fend of the time to be able to save up you budget why not? I have several friends who go DH with HT frames but at the bottom of the trail their holding and massaging their asses like crazy ;D but on the basic part i would emphasize the ff: -FS frame pref. at least 4" of travel (the more the better) -long travel fork (at least 6") -8"/203mm brake system (hydraulic or mechanical would do..personally budget and performance wise i would suggest the Avid BB7) -at least 2.35" knoby tires and match them with wide rims to fit for me those would be the basic components for your future DH rig.. Happy building..

Look for 2nd hand dh parts, of course always check the item before buying.

ask atomyk and you wont regret it and to tell you honestly DH setup is not practical at all coz you will be abusing your bike and will lead to unstoppable upgrade.....just like everyone else here. ;D

For beginners a 5" travel set up front and rear will do. But if you really want to be more competitive (gear wise) and not relying entirely on skills, better upgrade to a longer travel fork. Marz Jr. T perhaps...
In my opinion having a better fork makes a lot of difference than the rear suspension. But ofcourse if you have longer travel both front and rear the better in most type of courses... If you plan to get a DH frame, let me suggest a trixxter. You can get a race ready one for P15K-20K. Good luck!

Build na llang ng new rig na pang DH brad If your current frame is for XC and you slap a DH fork on it, alanganin ata ang geometry na ng bike nyan after the fork upgrade.

do you suggest to change my forks lang muna? or slowly build up a dh rig na? Dude I suggest you upgrade to a minimum 5" travel fork. If budget is a big problem, a hardtail or FS with even 3" travel is enough. Just slap-on 2.35" DH tires (whatever you prefer). I started riding DH using a Giant NRS (XC set-up). I just upgraded to a Marz DJ 3 fork and IRC Kujo tires. I use the same bike to ride DH on Saturdays & XC on Sundays. But if you're riding purely DH, I suggest you also slap on a chain guide device. When your skill progresses, that's the time you buy a stronger frame. Then slowly upgrade the other parts. You will definitely know what parts to upgrade first because it will probably break before you even think about it.... ;D

what's your budget? what's your definition of DH... every1's different. u know u could always ride (or walk if u can't ride it) 'DH' w/ your present bike a couple of times to see if u like it (just dnt do the drops)... or u could just go and buy yourself a full on DH bike if you're made of money.
if it's really what u wanna do: practical? ...back to what's your budget?

your rig is good enough for DH, you might wanna consider to save some cash for the hydro brakes. but over all the DJ3 will do for now. Upgrade when you feel like you're ready.

Ok na yung rig mo brad. However, if you would further delve into competitive DHing, better next prioritize on a chain guide/chain retention system.

hahahyz.....u guys spend too much money.......plenty of buying n selling and waste of money...hahahyz.... If u plan to go "downhill" u cant go less brad believe me ull end up spending quite more if u go less................. ;D noob or pro there can only be one set-up.......here goes: Fork: Boxxer! it dnt matter what kind dufus! if its a boxxer u'd most probably live to tell bout it!....... 888s and monsters are good too......... dnt break the bank! ;D *A boxxer would most likely outlive u and ur Dh career. trust me, it will last longer than you ..... Frame: Anything with 4 or more linkages(linkage=stability).... Anything with 8" or more u see 4"? 5"? 6"? lolx... ;D GET REAL MAN!.....prolly way abck in the 90s we could get away with 6". But i dont think so today tho...... ;D not unless ur steve peat or sumthin? ;D oh and downhill bikes work on "springs" ok.....dnt go playin with air shocks u gonna get hurt man..... Hubs n Rims: sealed all the way n solid wide rims......fatboys work pretty well tho....ho humm ;D Stem n bars: go for azonic hammers or O stems theyre pretty boombroof....... plus their solid structure hurt like hell whenever u crash n pound urself against it.... cool! imagine thisd prolly cost like 65-75T ryt? vs buyin a 4" bike then upgrading to a 6" bike then goin to an 8" bike? which would go like = 120k by the time ur aware of everything..... ;D and suddenly realize that u shud hav gotten the 8"dh bike in the first place huh? ;D ;D ;D This DH set-up will benefit you most, You would end up using this DH Rig for the least 2 yrs or so until u find sumthin better. so with in this 2 yrs you will master ur ride. u will gain harmony with its movement and behaviour(cuz ull end up tryin out stuff its fun). u will be accustomed to its feel, stretch , balance and eventually develop a mastery of your bike( A Dhers' weapon is his bike ). That beats the hell out of occassionally adjusting to the ride cuz from 4-6-8 remember? u master ur ride faster the earlier u gain handling skills the faster u learn new stuff too.........am i ryt? .....hmmmmm or maybe a basic entry wud do for e.g. Trixxter frame , Drop-off 3ple crown, fatboy rims, deore hydraulics and a lot of body armor.....lolz ;D hope this helps man.............

For starting better to use some second hand parts don’t for get to ask who the rider is! Better to use 6" travel frame and 7" fork.
