Does it suggest any possible heart or health problems? Curious lang. . . I noticed that most people who snore are those na medyo fat or overweight may he/she be active in sports or not. May kinalaman ba ito? Also, my wife noticed that I started snoring ( though not all the time ) when I gained weight ( around 30 lbs.). She would always call my attention early in the morning by asking me to go and have a ride (weekday ride) other than my usual weekend ride. What's interesting to note, however, is that I don't snore pag nag ride ako that morning or frequent ang rides ko. Any comments on this? May significance ba ito as far as heart problem is concerned?

Try sleeping on your side instead of your back.

weekendrider, yeah, some sleeping positions seem to lessen it like lying on your side

shezz! my wife snores like a crashing 747 ...pero bakit ganun di lahat ng gabi..pero lately when she started going to the gym parang nawala.. uncle ted, gonz, i'm not trying to scare you guys or anything pero sa personal opinion ko somehow health related nga yan..alam ko it happens when a muscle somewhere at the back of the mouth/neck area relaxes pero how a certain muscle behavior reflects the general health condition of a person yun ang gusto ko maintindihan. this is really interesting. i wud love to hear from our doctors here. i like to know more about this.

some causes daw: You might have... -Tongue falling into the throat -Jaw being to narrow or in wrong position -Throat closing up when sleeping -Allergy making your nose stuffy -Outside pressure pushing on the throat ... among others

This may sound strange guys, but the sound of someone snoring is comforting to me I've always associated snoring with sleeping soundly, and when I hear a family member snoring Im happy for him or her whether its good for their health or not...ewan ko

I also want to know kung sign ba ito ng heart problem or clogged arteries o whatever. don't mean to scare anyone as well, curious lang.

Loud snoring could be indicative of sleep apnea. There's a sleep lab in Makati. My gf's uncle went there for diagnosis and treatment.
His sleep apnea was causing him to wake up many times a night, so he was constantly tired even though he thought he had a full night's sleep. Now he sleeps with a hose affixed to his mouth/nose and connected to a machine that keeps a certain air pressure so that his breathing is not interruped. No more snoring and apnea, and he gets a good night's sleep every night.

Dami na pala questions... Cge, try ko answer lahat as simple as I can. Snoring.... this is caused by vibrations then air passes thru a narrowed air way. More technically, when you sleep the muscles of the mouth and tongue relaxes. This causes air way narrowing, and vibrations are made due to (1) air passing thru the narrowed space and (2) the relaxed muscle obstructing or narrowing the airway. Check this out: www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?objectid=48D50376-6042-4011-A627317A9C08F538&dsection=2Snoring and Heart disease This is still a mystery... and being debated by the medical community. When you look at it majority of those who snore are obese, if not overweight, middle age people.... These are those who are at risk of heart disease(coincidence? maybe, maybe not). Another theory that is being accepted is this may be attributed by SLEEP APNEA. Sleep Apnea- a potentially serious disorder in which your breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. During this episodes, you are actually deprived of oxygen, in the long term this causes damage to blood vessel linings which are made more suitable conditions for plaque formation, leading to heart disease. Treatment Loose weight! Avoid alcohol or sleeping medications Sleep on your side Surgery is also an option or like Woofers uncle, CPAP(continous positive airway pressure) Ok? Where do I send the bill?

Ok? Where do I send the bill? ;D there are still many opinions to its final solution... pero just remember this snoring is caused when your soft palate (the soft part of the inside of your mouth where the uvula is hanging) makes contact with either your tongue or the upper part of the throat. try simulating snoring while you're awake ;D it doesn't automatically mean that if you snore that you have a health problem... just that certain parts of your oral cavity relax more than usual.. for those on the slightly healthy and medjo healthy side. there is an excess of tissue in this area kaya nag build up. dehins naman kasi lumalaki yung buto mo kung tumataba ka diba? kaya what happens if you stuff more tissue in a confined space? it narrows the passageway. they don't snore when they're awake coz voluntary muscles pull it down a bit para maka hinga ng maluwag at siyempre para kumain ;D nguya nguya notice that it also kinda progresses with age? the muscles kinda get flabby after awhile so it relaxes more more when we're asleep. woofers is right there is a sleep clinic in Makati med, and another one at St. Lukes where you pay 10 thousand bucks so we could watch, take pictures, and connect you to a machine that monitors your o2 sat ecg, and ekg while you are snoring.. or sleeping away ;D

ngek!!! 10K just so somebody can watch you snore hehehe mahal nga eh but it is used to analyze your sleeping pattern, kung gumugulong gulong ka. and even if you have mannerisms like scratching your... eherms while sleeping ;D delikado kasi ang sleep apnea. it is one of the causes of "bangungot" as i recall... that drowning sensation when sleeping? not usually fatal kasi nagigising kaya nababawi... but then again

di ba may advantage din kung nag-snore pa rin ang mga kasama mo sa bahay... at least you can hear them and know that they still living... i mean buhay pa sila at di pa BINABANGUNGOT.... mahirap naman yun na umaga mo na malalaman na patay na sila... dahil akala mo kaya di nag-snore maganda ang tulog nila..... "safe and sound" daw...<=== safe: ligtas,ok, ayos; sound: ingay, tunog=snore

i've been on the sleep center wayback 1998. they put a lot of electrodes in my head and they watched me in the camera for the whole 8 hours of my sleep. they found out the next morning that i had more or less (can't remember) 200 episodes of sleep apnea during the entire session. i never reached the goal of stage IV of sleepwhich is waht they called"deep sleep" because somewhere along stage II or III the cycle is being interrupted by episodes of apnea----prolonged oxygen deprivation causes your heeart to accelerate and failure of your organs to take a rest. that's why i never had a good night sleep. waking up in the morning tired and sometimes i would doze off while im in the steering wheel. CPAP machine was on the introductory stage at that time. my insurance would only pay 80% and i have to pay the remaining 20% and they cost more than a grand that time. i tried the machine for a month free...i would never get along with that thing. it pushes positive pressure of air in to your nose mostly out of the rhythm leave you gasping for air and the feel of drowning. on top of it, you'll have to use it everytime you sleep unless if you had to undergo a certain surgial procedure. so i did the right thing, using my 20% to buy myself a nice race face cranks and that made me more vigourous to hit the trail with my new set of cranks. the more i ride...the lesser i am snoring. waking-up more refreshed, and i could cruise up to 80 mph without worrying of dozing off. those machine are now cheaper and comes in 2 types: CPAP and BIPAP. (most of my patients uses BIPAP) so in other words, never stop upgrading. that's one way of beating up that snore. just my experience with snoring.
