Guys, Anybody used tektro DB. Saw these babies in Quiapo. They're affordable and one of my friend me included would like to try it. Though, one store in quiapo told me that brakepads are hard to find. any feedback will be appreciated ...

guys, anybody used tektro DB, one store in quiapo told me that brakepads are hard to find. any feedback will be appreciated ... that's not true. extreme has lots of it. joven and allterra has it as well. basically most bikeshops that distribute giant bikes have them becoz most of the tektro diskbrakes would be coming off from built bikes. there's no one selling it in quiapo and there's some at cartimar (i think) but one thing's for sure: there are sources. its not hard to find its just that they don't know where to find it, hehehe ;D

Is it better than the Shimano M465, 475 and 495s in general? Thanks! regards,

I still have a pair of used tektro IO disk brakes (6"). Came on my first bike. Really affordable and reasonable diskbrakes. In around 4 mos of use, I had zero problems. I also like the simple drilled rotor design. PM me. I'm selling it since I upgraded to hydros.

hehe, actually i want to keep it a secret. i was keeping it for myself becoz i want you guys to find out the hard way like i did, hehehe. the tektro IO dbs are reliable IMHO. it never failed on me. we just went up the helipad at licao licao. takes an hour climb to get there and takes less than 8-10 minutes to get down depending on your pace. incredible stopping power for a mech db. check the fun rides thread for the pics of the licao licao ride. steep inclines that could go as high as 45-55 degrees. pure fire road galore so the only time for you to hit the brakes is if your cornering. but then again, your going down so fast the next corner is just within 3 blinks of an eye, make it 5, hehe. guess what? i dont want to brag or anything. i didn't even know until i asked Fafa rocky. was i the first to get down from the dreaded helipad? he said yes. i wasn't the first to go down but i got passed everybody. but then again if it was a contest i think it could've been a different story, hehehe. i'm just a weak, newbie, guttless, rider. my point is, if it weren't for these mech dbs i wouldn't get down in one piece, hehe. unfortunately though, hydros have the advantage for stopping power and convenience. my hands/fingers almost cramped up becoz i couldn't let go of the brakes. anyways, i'm not a model for tektros. i just want to return the favor: this forum helped me and so i want to help back. i'm not guaranteeing anything. i have never used any kind of dbs before other than the tektros. the others maybe better definitely. but one thing's for sure: these things worked for me. i maybe a newbie but speed is my game as well and stopping my bike is just as important as making me go fast. just my 200 cents, hehe.

just to add: as much as i want to use the ever reliable avids (the number 1 mech dbs IMHO), i chose tektros for 2 reasons: weight and price. if it was the lightest dbs, i'd get them. but they're not. also, they're not cheap. costs somewhere around P4.5K-5.5K at LBSs. tektros cost............................ SECRET, hehehe. i guess some of you know the answer from previous threads and where to buy 'em hehe. i posted it here somewhere.......
if i were you, i'd just go for hydros, hehehe. ;D

Tektro I/O disk brakes work well if calibrated properly contrary to what others say.

I'm using Tektro IO for the past hmm...3 years already? so far so good. although i'm a weekend rider, and now i think a quarterly rider since i haven't ridden for a while...... I've used Shimano Deore DB before, yeah it's also mechanical. so far i like the ease of setup of the Tektro, no fuss braking power is also good i've used it for bike commuting and xc rides and so far it hasn't let me down
