My cousin is asking me to buy a group set for his XC MTB. He's giving me a budget of 10k including shipping to Tacloban. Since the Deore groupset averages between 10-12k depending where you buy it, I'm asking if you know any alternative parts with roughly the same quality and price as Shimano Deore.
Here's a list... Just type the alternative beside it. Thanks
1. Disc Brakes 2. Levers 3. Shifters 4. Cranks 5. BB 6. Hubs 7. 9 speed cassette 8. FD 9. RD
Thanks!

julio, cant think of any. did he specify the brand shimano? suntour imho has good deals. if your cousin has shimano leanings, he'd have to shell out 2k more. 2k na lang naman eh. deore's a pretty good group set. down the ladder theres alivio.
or you may wana try the b&s section...

I was thinking of specifics like for the hubs i might try the Sunrace Juju and for the cranks the FSA V-drive octalink... so baka you have suggestions for the other parts? Hehe. Please don't suggest going down the ladder in Shimano parts since that's pretty obvious Ayoko rin mag B&S section dahil ayokong mahirapan maghanap... I'll most likely get this from one shop lang. Hehe Again

sir julio,
ok yung FSA v-drive octalink compatible sa shimano octalink. Kasi before i plan to get a deore 05 crank(2,300Php) pero medyo wala sa budget so i opted for the FSA v-drive(1400php) sa Ross. Ok pa customer service nila! Lahat sila friendly kahit busy or makulit ka!

just my 0.02 1. Disc Brakes - Tektro IO 2. Levers - Err....if you stick to Shimano, it's cheaper to get the lever and shifter (STI), than separate. 3. Shifters 4. Cranks - FSA V-Drive, I'm currently using it, and very much okay 5. BB - Err...How much is a Deore again? he he he 6. Hubs - I'm using Juju now, I say it's smoother than the Deore I've used before. 7, 8 and 9 - I have no idea but Suntour is a good option.

JUJU my comment is just have it serviced after going to a river crossing. coz mine is doing a grinding noise which annoys me but performance is just fine.

JUJU my comment is just have it serviced after going to a river crossing. coz mine is doing a grinding noise which annoys me but performance is just fine. I think this applies to most hubs. I know u guys love river crossings but I won't ride my bike if the water is over the hubs or the BB. Rather carry the bike. Sealed bearings or not if you ride under water it will get contaminated... and if you're getting a "grinding noise" well that's not just an annoyance that's a contaminated hub bearings waiting to die.

Oh... and good call on the Sunrace JUJU if it's the same price as the Deore hubs. I'm done with Shimano's hubs. They require a lot of maintenance IMO.... but they are rebuildable so that's the nice side of it.
