I think you can buy a good second hand Giant NRS three costing around 15K to 17K, this is the best MTB XC on the market, lightweight, no bobbing, no ghostshifting and the price is just ok not "abnormal" just like bernie said nyehehehheheh.

yup, with the Giant Anthem coming in, a lot of NRS riders would probably be upgrading to this, so definitely a lot of NRS second hand frames will be for sale in the coming months.

What are the other brands of proven FS XC frames in the local market today aside from the NRS? ....and at a price range of 10-15k

maybe a second or third hand Kona Kikapu? or Jamis Dakar? but I think these frames would still be going for about 15k-20k.
Think it's best to save up and get a descent frame rather than settle for anything less than an NRS, etc. A good hartail would still be better than a not-so-descent FS.

The price range of P10k to 15K of a brand new FS XC is hard to find unless those generic taiwanese frames that is why i posted second hand only. other brands are KHS, Jamis, Mongoose but their prices are over 30K's

By the way if you watch S-Channel, all XCers there uses Hardtail Frames that is why hardtail is alive again in Europe and USA, now here in Laguna Hardtails are blooming again.

Hardtail... still popular for XC and races. Specially when the trail are not really technical. Not only that its easier to maintain. I regret selling my Trek 9.8 .

For XC use only. Might be worth checking out.

I regret selling my Trek 9.8 . i fell in love with my HT compared to my FS. i only use my FS if my HT is not in good shape. but maybe its just me coz i'm a weight weenie, hehe. ;D what they said is correct. don't settle for anything less than an NRS. this frame is proven and even won various awards. giant spent a lot to have it as close as perfect as the NRS. but mass production, age and marketing dictates that this frame is due to be a classic but nevertheless, it still is one of the best frames if not best of the best out there. biased ko noh, hehe. ;D

dirk,
marcs has one. i also got to chit-chat with another owner last week at extreme bikes. he had an NRS and regrets having sold it coz according to him, his dakar bobs.
dakar looks better imho than the nrs. but according to edmund of allterra who i just got to talk to yesterday, the nrs is lighter than the dakar.
and since the shoutbox is down, patalastas muna:
dirk, maarat kami ni eiwol sa linggo. tapos nood kami ng race till probably about 930am. padjak time mga 6-620am. sama ka?

I still have my NRS three, I think its the best frame for a FS XC, I have an also specialized M5 but comparing it to the NRS, NRS excells, so if you have NRS frames, don,t sell it, treasure it.

Yep they're correct, tell him to look for an NRS, I believe and save a little to adjust the budget, that small difference of budget will benefit him on the long run.

yeah depends on what you want to do. I think NRS (Non-Resonance System) is race bred, really meant to give you a firm pedalling platform. The Dakar XLT's is on the more aggressive side, slacker head tube angle, 80-125mm of travel with a much tougher (and tougher looking frame) (love your own!) hehe. Trade-off lang nga is heavier weight (mine comes to around 30-31lbs, but hey, 200lbs na ko so . . . and some bobbing when you run the shock on the softer side. Net, you want to be the one first on top, and want something that soaks up the chatter, NRS or Kikapu. You want to take your time going up, but want to run like mad going down, Dakar XLT. Pssst fullspeed, tulungan mo naman ako dito! Net, there's always a trade-off. So my suggestion is really figure out what you want to do most of the time, then save up and get the best components you can afford.

BrusKO, I'm not sure if I can make it this Sunday. Will tell you by Saturday. Just PM your cell to me so I can text you if I can make it I'll get a FS frame early next year pa siguro. I'm leaning towards a Dakar now actually. But if I get a good deal on an NRS, why not.

[glow=yellow,2,300]If you'd like to really have a brand new cross-country frame that would be really cheap but not compensating the performance, I suggest you buy "Shawn h-2".
The last time I ask for the price, it hits P25,000. Not bad ey?[/glow]

I own a 04 Diamondback, retail here is P2+,+++ a a few pesos over your budget... great reviews from the Pinoys who have used it and folks not from the Phil.... though only a handful own them here.
IMHO, fs designs almost work the same way, what makes the ride different is the "shocks" and the rider.
