In tagalog Huwag akong tularan 9-10-07 10:30 am I am on my way to Binangonan Rizal for delivery of 400 pcs of cdr disc inside the box with 1 continues ink system or CIS and 6 bottles of ink inside my camping bag it was heavy. Passing Ortigas Pasig, Cainta at 11:35 am and reach Taytay Rizal at 12:35 pm 12:45 pm Upon passing a gas station besides a restaurant, a jeep pass by from my back and all the way to my front besides (ginitgit) me and suddenly horned on me. I was in deep shock and swerve away from the jeep and hit a small gap and fall on my face first on the aspalt pavement and i got a black eye and a broken helmet 1:00 pm paddle all the way to Binangonan with a black eye and a broken helmet. 2:35 pm reach the site of my delivery. 3:00 pm going to show blvd. for collection. 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm reach show blvd with a black eye and a broken helmet. 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm reach the office. Moral Lesson for this: ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET WHEN YOU RIDE!!! AND BE CAREFUL OF THOSE STUPID JEEPNEYS THAT PASS BESIDES YOU AND TRY TO DESTRACT YOUR ATTENTION WHILE YOU BIKE. THERE ARE TARANTADONG DRIVER OUT THERE WITH NO CONCIENCE TRYING TO MAKE YOU FEEL NERVIOUS WHEN YOU RIDE, SO WATCH OUT FOR IT. AND NEVER CARRY HEAVY THINGS ON YOUR BACK WHEN RIDING ON A BIKE IT CAN MAKE YOU OFF BALANCE. AND LIVE STRONG, DON'T LIVE LIKE LANCE ARMSTRONG WHEN YOU PEDAL WITH HEAVY WEIGHT IN YOUR BACK. IT CAN BRING YOU BACK PAIN AND ARTRITIS. AND ALWAYS BE OPEN MINDED WHEN YOU RIDE A BIKE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TROUBLE THERE BRING YOU. Don't buy cheap helmets it can kill you!!!

whoa, good thing you have that helmet on. really makes me wonder why i'm wearing a full face on my commute.
you might want to invest in bike rack or pannier so you can carry the load on the bike instead of your back.

Get well Charlie! Be really glad that you were wearing a helmet. I am sure Jane will give you a good discount for a new helmet if you tell her your painful and yet lucky ordeal. Just remember that it could have been a lot worse. I think it would be best to carry heavy stuff on those bags that clamp on bike racks beside the rear wheel if you will continue to deliver computer stuff all over Metro Manila so that the center of gravity will be low and your bike handling will not be severely compromised in case you get surprised by reckless drivers. Also take comfort that your injury was inflicted by a reckless driver but my severely sprained ankle and knee was all my own fault and folly.

I was wondering what the Noodletown chapter was doing last Sunday, didn't get in touch with you guys!
o, Charlie! How's recovery? Hope you take it slowly the next time, don't be too aggressive and hard on yourself.
Life is short, but don't make it shorter. Ride safe.
Let's drink and relax!
P.S. Find a way to put those heavy luggage in the bike instead of the back of the biker! Save your back! osteo-spinal injury alert!

And speaking of Helmet here is one that I can share to you guys what is the best you can get in my own experience. this one not very safe while this one Safe very safe but be sure to cover your face this is good when you are riding in a very dangerous manner and this protects your eyes from being hit by stone or any other debris that fly around when you are riding. also this helmet protects you from rain. Warning on wearing motorcycle helmet: be sure its well ventilated or else your scalp will smell like hell.

-oops I think I'm guilty on doing this kind of biking -I regularly carry my groceries at my backpack and bike all the way from Sm north edsa to project 8. -Last December I recall Buying 2.5K worth of groceries for noche buena & I have to use my camping bag to fit them all. First problem I encounter was its very hard to mount your self, I can feel the rear shocks of my GTS taking the punishment. Another thing is its hard to glance at the rear to look for incoming vehicle because one sudden twitch and the bag will riun your balance. Its hard to turn as well coz the entire weight is transferred on your shoulder. -Until now I still regularly do the groceries and carry them on my bike but this time I make sure that the load will not jepordize my safety.

This is not to scare you but after a bad crash like that, it would be prudent to have yourself examined for concussions. We normally think "Wala naman akong nararamadaman eh" ("I don't feel anything bad") and let things go. Going by feel is actually a poor way of gauging internal head injuries.
Anyway, you seem OK so count your blessings.
Yes don't buy cheap helmets. I see some riders who can lavish money on the latest components but schrimp on their helmets. Sporting goods shops in malls today carry a lot of cheap, obscure brand helmets with no ANSI or Schell ratings. Keep away from them!

Agree with Glockbiker. When head trauma is involved, spend time to check for signs, like, experience vomiting, dizziness, lumps, blurred vision... Be careful and don't hesitate to get a check up if suspicious. Is there a review of different bike helmets available? Something like this?
