Nice Bruski! So your heart is really into this manila-baguio and vice-versa century ride...this would be quite a great challenge for a mountainbiker... but i admire your conviction and courage going at it alone...go go go brad!!! eventhough weve met only a few weeks ago i already sensed the passion burning in you...pls update us on your planned ride..Ayt!!!

wow!!! ride safe Bruski...be careful of those buses. There's a road in concepcion tarlac you can use w/c bypasses the bus route and it exits somewhere in Pangasinan. There are arrows along the way, its a 2 lane road just make sure you ask around coz one wrong turn can take you to Nueva Ecija Mapa

Get off the highway in Capas... take the right fork where the McDo is, go a few km, left to Concepcion, then LaPaz-Victoria-Pura... forget the names of the other towns but look on any good road map; you can use those interior road up to I think Binalonan in Pangasinan, which is almost to the Kennon junction. A lot more fun than dealing with the trucks and buses.

Hey Jon, I'm actually going alone. If I had the budget, I'd take Goku with me since he's not doing anything anyway on weekdays. No date as to when yet. The weather hasn't been cooperating so I haven't even started training for it. In fact, although I already have my slicks on, I haven't sat on the saddle since our last ride. My target is to ride there by next week although I might move it to the next. No sponsors needed. I'd like to do this as quietly as possible. In fact, I first posted my question on PCN last week regarding the route to Baguio but nobody answered. So, I posted here. I got the "waypoint" route from m2m, a motorcycling club and wanted to make sure it was right. And besides that, I want to ask: is there a sign in Pangasinan to Kennon? (ATTENTION Steve! ) What time do I have to be at the Kennon junction in order for me to make it to Baguio before the sun sets? Yukon, May mas malaking mapa ka pa? Ian, Thanks. I'll be texting the gang for updates while resting during the ride. Isa ka na dun!

Marcos Hi-way? I thought you'd take Kenon Road, instead?
Just to share:
When Mojiks, Janix and I (and some folks) did the Baguio loop via Kenon Road-Pugo-Marcos Hi-way last holyweek, we started and left Baguio City around 0700, arrived Pugo at 0800, then started the climb back to Baguio City via Marcos Hi-way around 0830-0900. Mojiks got back (at Baguio City) at around 1200H and I got there around 1300H.
Conservatively, Pugo to Baguio City via Marcos Hi-way may take about 3 1/2hrs, on mountain bike (siguro ikaw baka 2-2 1/2hrs lang). Consider the timing pards 'cause I'm sure you wouldn't want to climb Marcos Hi-way towards the evening, safety first.
All the best and luck on your journey, Forest Gump! Godspeed!

Dayuhan is right, take the Concepcion-La Paz-Victoria-Pura-Gerona-Paniqui Route to skip the 50+ km strech of Mc Atrhur Highway........most safest...beautiful sceneries of rice field at mostly makakasabay mo ay mga kalabaw sa daan:D

Conservative estimate, laspag and all, I must be climbing Kennon by 3pm... 330pm latest. But just in case, I've already arranged for Judex's lighting equipment.

Bruce,
Good luck! You can also checkout waypoints.ph you can download waypoints and maps on the site. I think he has found a couple of new routes that will bypass the main highway. Its not necessarily shorter though but definitely safer in terms of volume of motorized traffic. In case you run into some problems downloading his maps and waypoints text me as I know the owner. I can ask him to email them to you directly.
Ingat.
Boy
p.s. at this time of the year the sun sets at around 5:30pm. Godspeed.

Most of the turns on the back route are marked with signs. When I first started driving that way I looked at maps and made a list of the towns I wanted to pass through, then I'd just ask directions to the next town on the list. In those small interior towns, if you ask the way to Baguio you often just get confusion or the way back to the main highway; if you ask the way to the next town any grade school kid can tell you!
There's a couple of possibilities on the back route... probably the easiest, though a little longer, is to go right at Pura then ride til you hit a T junction, right is toward Guimba, left takes you out through Asingan and back to the highway at Binalonan, just south of the La Union border. Can't miss the Kennon junction. Kennon of course has a lot less traffic than Marcos Highhway!

Bruskidoo Steve's right, take that turn in Concepcion. Wifes from there and I've seen the road to Baguio...its safer brad. In case you need anything in Concepcion town lemme know. I've asked Lloyd to join you so far he's checking his sched next week and asking his wife if he can pedal all the way. Cant find a bigger map but you wanna try this too MAPA2

adding to some confusion. we tried to measure Kennon and Marcos highway before on a car. Marcos is something like 28 km, while Kennon is 25 km. not sure if this is correct.

brus, are you really into the manila-baguio road trip? or, can i recommend a banaue-bontoc-sagada-baguio circuit? input lang pre.... yup, this is the one i'd like to take. i think this needs a full week to be enjoyed. hey owen, maybe we should start a running thread here at PinoyMTBiker, hehehe ;D. so we can be aware of races and the right way to train and even running buddies. who knows, di ba? i think there are more runners than mountainbikers.

brus, are you really into the manila-baguio road trip? or, can i recommend a banaue-bontoc-sagada-baguio circuit? input lang pre.... Not a bad ride... but the single track trails and back roads around Sagada are so much more fun than those roads, I'd actually suggest just coming straight here by car or bus, using your time on the trails, and then leaving by car or bus.

Just came from Baguio last week and what can I say? The place is heaven for cyclists with those long, winding, uphill and downhill roads all over the place. Plus the cool weather! Should have brought my mtb.
Good luck to sir Brusko. (and I hope PinoyMTBiker sets a "Lakbay Aral sa Baguio" hehe)
