I saw bike lanes sa xavier ville extension, Q.C. pa ba yon, pardon my ignorance, what I wanted to note was that the tricycle drivers have already taken over the bike lane.

I noticed this too. Had the chance to watch the lanes for an entire afternoon while waiting for my sister see a doctor. Medyo alanganin din kasi sitwasyon ng tricycle. Mabilis masyado yung cars pero mabagal naman yung bikes. Also, they have a better advantage picking up and dropping off passengers there. Basta pag bike ka, siguro wag ka magbago ng pace even if there's a trike behind you because it's a bike lane--right of way natin. Ang maganda yung sa Marikina--whenever possible the bike lanes share the wide sidewalks with pedestrians. When the sidewalks are narrow, only then it becomes pure pedestrian lanes. Being out of the actual road really helps a lot in terms of safety and exclusivity. Natuwa pa nga ako, even the overpass that crosses over to Sta Lucia (Cainta) has a bike ramp so you don't have to pick up your bike! I tried pedalling up the ramp pero masyado matarik, my front is lifting. Descending is ok basta alalay sa brakes.

I wish they'd also include bike parking areas at the MRT/LRT stations, so that for people who live really far from work (e.g. QC to Makati) they can bike until the station and commute from there like this one....

Suggestion lng po: -fences should be put between motorist and cyclist. To make the lanes more dedicated. Also putting fences could discipline more people to use the pedestrian lane and overpass when crossing the streets.
-A lane should only accomodate a width enough for 2 bicycles in order the tri-cycles wouldnt try to pass trough.
-A warning signage wud be a great help (eg. This lanes are for bicycles only, motor bikes/tricycles are not allowed to enter, vendor are not allowed with in this area, also interpreted in tagalog of course.
-on pedestrian waiting areas/pedestrian lane, bike lane should be open in order for them to pass through when they want to cross the street.
-upon building this lane, hope they could also build a designated waiting shed area for pedestrian loading/unloading zone in between. Wid a time limiter example a 60 sec for every vehicle to extract passengers and another 60 sec to accumulate passengers. To lessen the traffic. MMDA/lespu should guard this area.

Marikina sees more bikers
May 08, 2006 Updated 05:46am (Mla time) Edson C. Tandoc Jr. Inquirer
FOR EVERY 10 vehicles on Marikina City’s streets, at least one is a bicycle, according to a study conducted by the city government in March.
And with the imminent threat of oil prices shooting up, the City Bikeways Office is predicting that more residents will turn to biking as their main means of transportation.
“Biking is a very timely alternative to motorized vehicles,” bikeways office head Lota Contreras said yesterday.
Contreras said that based on the survey, the number of bicycles on the city’s streets was about 10 percent of the total traffic volume in Marikina.

that's really good news! i also notice dramatic increase of bikers in the streets of manila, though there's no statistics to prove it. i wish everyone feels the necessity to own a bike.

i have one cycling wish for this lifetime: wish some bright sincere cycling buff reaches the presidency and fill this city with bike lanes, rid the streets of smoke belchers, and plant more trees.
as long as bureacracy is driven by the age-old trapo mantra "magkano kita ko dyan?", we will never get our bikelanes.

With the rising costs of oil and the proportional increase in fares, the most noble invention - the bicycle, will reclaim it's share of the road.

So many cars so few bikes, really nice lock up, cometo think of it four bikes can fit into one car slot, in any case can someone post the proposed bike route maps?

I'll try to check around for the map... the initial bicycle route should run from Katipunan Avenue up to Col. Salgado Street near Kamias Road, passing through Esteban Abada Street, Xavierville Avenue and Anonas Street. Similar bike lane routes will be established between Roces Avenue going to Timog Avenue and Quezon Memorial Circle, Timog Avenue to Quezon Avenue, West Avenue to Balintawak through E. delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), Quezon Memorial Circle to Congressional Avenue, University Avenue to Visayas Avenue and Maharlika to Katipunan Avenue. Anyway...here's one classic example of Local Government's not supporting the project, instead of enforcing .... they decided to whine instead MMDA bike-lane project a failure—Yllana
THE Metro Manila Development Authority should abort the P362-million bike-lane project in Metro Manila because the agency cannot even maintain its 3.6-kilometer pilot project in Quezon City. Vice Mayor Anjo Yllana of Parañaque City told MMDA chair Bayani Fernando that the Edsa-Katipunan bike route in Quezon City can be considered a failure because cyclists cannot use the lanes due to “poor condition.” It should be stopped to prevent further waste of government funds, he said. The pilot bicycle route runs from Katipunan Avenue to Col. Salgado Street near Kamias Road, passing through Esteban Abada Street, Xavierville Avenue and Anonas Street. The lanes are for the exclusive use of cyclists and other two-wheeled vehicles. However, the lanes are being used for parking, blocking the path of bikers, Yllana said. The lane is the first of the 10 planned routes in Quezon City, which take up about 18 percent of the 200-kilometer bike route in Metro Manila. MMDA general manager Robert Nacianceno said the agency will look into the matter and will coordinate with the Quezon City government to ensure that the lanes are free from obstructions. The metrowalk and pedal way were built by the national government to save energy. President Arroyo ordered the MMDA to carry out the project to interconnect the 17 cities and municipalities in the metropolis. --Jefferson Antiporda

Hope the fireflies could host a bike for a cause ride once again campaigning "where are the bike lanes" i believe this could be a wake-up call for those who have planned the bikes lane for metro manila.

that's it hope you find all those information useful somehow... of course, implementing the 'plan' is a different story altogether but at least we know the project is moving (however slow... ) i guess that's where our show of support would count the most. i just wish all 17 LGUs would agree on a unified plan for this Metro Manila bikeway and not be concerned of 'ownership' of the project
