I actually and personally met a one-armed roadie who's a biking buddie of my boss. for those doing the daang hari circuit, i think that he's a regular roadie over there. according to his story, he got frustrated losing his arm after a factory machine accident. and to prove that he can still function as a normal person inspite of his accident, he took up road cycling. the start was very hard as he had to undergo a lot of spills in learning to balance, shift as well as brake a road bike with just one arm. finally after so much hard work, he was able to ride his rig as what every normal person can. and by the way, the cockpit controls (front/rear brakes and FD RD shifters are all custom installed in the right h/bar. the (alabang) cycling group that my boss belongs to is a strong group and i believe that this one-armed cyclist can easily smoke starting cyclists. talk about resiliency

There is an article on singletrack magazine (February 2006) about a mountain biker who is legally blind (he has blurred peripheral vision beyond correction and no forward vision) who even rides trails truely inspiring.

He's also diabetic with 3 years on dialysis, and had 2 double organ transplants. He races with a guide but still, unbelievable.
