Share some of your best and worst experiences with motorists while bike commuting. Here's mine:
best - while trying to get to a u-turn slot from the outer side of the road along Quezon Ave., a van slows down effectively blocking the other vehicles behind him to give me the chance to cross safely to the u-turn slot, we both give a friendly wave to each other after
worst - while pedalling along Roces Ave, a car driver honks his horn at me for about 30 seconds then speeds away just for the heck of it. The road was a two laner and he could have easily overtaken without any problem. Guess he's one of those drivers who feel that bikes do not have a right on the road

In one of the streets in New Manila, a maroon LiteAce suddenly honked his horn while tailgating me. It was a two lane street and although I was a bit in the middle of one of the lanes, I found no reason for him to honk his horn at me because the other lane wasn't occupied and I saw no vehicles going opposite our direction. I quickly moved to the side to give him way and as he passed, I shouted "P00T@NG!NA M0!" He slowed down to a stop and as I passed by his right side, I slapped his side mirror. I slapped it so hard that the mirror rotated 180° off. He probably wasn't expecting a livewire reaction from me. He stopped for a few seconds, maybe 3-5 so I quickly made a U-turn to avoid further confrontation from the @$$ and while I passed in front of him I flicked my finger at him and sped off the other way. To further lose him, I turned to the first street I saw.
Less than a minute after, in one of New Manila's streets (near a convent and a school) lo and behold, the maroon mammoth with its hazard lights on, was going at it again! He was about 30 meters away from me, speeding towards my butt while honking his horn to get the kids out of his way! Pretty dumb jerk if I may say so myself. I shifted to a more comfortable gear, stood up and pedalled away. Again, I turned to the first street and this time, made sure I was totally off my route on the way home. Quite a workout. Everything happened in less than 5 minutes but it felt like forever! ;D

just this sunday this happened. on the way home with a friend, we passed through this eskinita. semi-urban assault-ish, we used the bangketa because there was this van entering the narrow street. my friend was able to slip by the van. i, trying to be courteous, allowed the van to pass by first so he could do so with ease. as he was slowly maneuvering his vehicle through the narrow street, i saw him mouthing off something through his closed windows. i snickered considering how irritated he looked then obligingly gave him the finger before he could completely lose sight of me. i pedaled away and i could here him shouting obsceneties. pinadaan ka na nga, ganyan pa ugali mo. talk about bottled up road rage.

Best While trying to pass on intersection along N. Domingo a car is also approaching, we both stop and the driver wave me saying "go ahead" and I waved him backed saying "thanks". In some places I also met drivers like this one.
Worst My worst enemy on the road are some bus and jeepney drivers. Early morning a few weeks ago along Junction going to IPI, A passenger was about to ride a bus, unfortunately the bus turns right going near to the passenger as if there's no vehicle on his side, me and a motorbike in front of me are almost squeezed in the gutter, we let the bus first to move farther, I intend to approach the bus driver in front to confront him, but the motorcyclist is much pissed off than me, he went in front of the drivers window, punched the glass and says bad words to the driver, after him, I also shouted to the driver not saying bad words, but telling him to watch both sides before doing a full turn.

Best:
This was long ago, in the early eighties when I was a kid on a BmX. My gang and I were on our way home from novaliches where there was an abandoned quarry- perfect playground. The group split up and I was on the way home along the A. Bonifacio flyover, really hammering and going fast, when my chain derailed, causing my rear wheel to lock and for me to lose balance. And I took a tumble. Several times. Over concrete. With cars beside and behind me. A van behind me just braked in time. The couple in the van got out and, with genuine concern on their faces, helped me up and made sure I was ok. Apparently, while I was a bit shocked, I was ok except for a bruised body and ego. They even offered to bring me and my bike to a hospital or home. I have no idea who this couple were or how many minutes they wasted making sure I was fine. Anyway, I checked my bike, found out it was operable, managed to blurt out some dazed thank you's and limped home. Whoever you are.. Thank you.
Worst: Again, long ago in the late eighties. We were in Cubao, crossing EDSA (you could still cross edsa then). I was stopped and waiting at the center island for the stoplight. Along comes a crazy tamaraw swerving and making a turn, narrowly missing the center island and running straight into my front wheel. Luckily, my quill stem was not on super tight and the fork just turned in relation to the stem/bars without ruining my wheel or the fork. The wheel was dented. The tamaraw didnt even slow down and sped away. No license plates. Must have been a criminal fleeing from the scene of another crime.

And this morning along Makati Ave, a very well educated taxi driver nearly cut me off from the outer lane to enter a bldg. . I gave him the look wish I had extra powers, I sure I would have blown off his tires...all foour of them;D ;D some filipino drivers really need to be educated on road sharing with bikes. Taxi's and other PUV's are not the only ones paying taxes. question??? are retractable batons legit...i want to have one

best: well nothing beats a lespu escort during a tour, he he he.
worst: a bike commuter takes a lot of worst everyday. but this is what i got this morning. i was riding a cab with my wife on the way to work. the very calm driver would always do a counterflow whenever possible. we entered gate 1 of the fort bonifacio via gualupe/jp rizal on the way to work. so he swerves into the other lane. a cyclist was heading towards the cab and pointed to the road. the driver slooooowly went back to the correct lane (it's a 2 lane road). and had the guts to give the cyclist the finger.
unfortunately i wasn't able to do anything. i just kept thinking that if the cyclist was another motorized vehicle, i don't think the cab driver has the guts to even do a counter flow.

best is when there are motorists who still honk when they are about to pass you by.making sure you are aware and those who still have courtesy in 'em.i give a "thank you" type of wave when i encounter motorists like that.
worst when there are jeepneys who cut in front of you instead of stopping behind you to let passengers get off or load some.motorists who dont use their signal lights when turning and those pesky motorcycle riding dumbnuts who swerve and swerve all over the road.also pedestrians who cross the streets as if they are walking in the park

worst: 1. at fvr drive, just outside riverbanks heading towards marcos hiway bridge. the 2 lanes going to riverbanks was full-packed traffic and vehicles going the same direction was also occupying the lane going otherwise. i was steadily cruising on rightmost lane near the embankment, when a blue hyundai grace van with yellow plate swerved towards my lane just to pass all the vehicles going towards riverbanks. it would have hit me if i haven't banked right. the thing is, my pedal caught the embankment causing me to lose control and crash. thank god there was no other vehicle following that stupid son of a btch, for i would have been a statistic. marco... could it have been you again? hehehehe... 2. on the climb to antipolo via sumulong hiway, before reaching alpha-D... super smoke-belching jeepneys . you just have to stop pedalling and stop breathing for a while rather than inhaling those toxic fumes. 3. those bastard roadies on the climb to antipolo via sumulong hiway that keeps on swerving on you just to let you know that it is their territory. they thought i would put on my brakes... hehehe... no way! knobbies eat road tires!!!! hehehe.... he ate dirt... hehehe... peace! 4. a right-turning, speeding closed delivery van going to rosario beating the red light (or is that beating a 'stop' hand signal...) at the intersection of e.rodriguez ave & the road going to monark/eastwood, near jolibee. i braked hard just to let him pass... even the vehicles on the same way as i am also stopped... good thing, a pasig blue boy was on standby after the intersection... he was apprehended...
best: 1. on my way home from maarat, near marikina church (OLA). the two lanes was stopped by an unloading jeepney. i was on the bike lane. a green mitsubishi adventure auv veered left towards the bike lane nearly hitting me. i tapped his window. he stopped. i continued down towards shell and john wilkies shop and stopped to see where the vehicle went or if he is following me. to my surprise, he was behind me. he stopped infront of me, rolled-down his window and apologized for the near mishap (he was not marco, by the way...). i think stopping at john wilkies shop gave me leverage... hehehe...

For me it was a bad experience with a fellow cyclist. There I was in New Manila with my maroon Lite Ace when I chanced upon a fellow cyclist. However, I noticed that his rear wheel doesn't appear to be true (I have eagle eyes for these things). Given the brotherhood and love that we all share, I was very much concerned for his safety lest his rear wheel suddenly give on him. So I followed him and started honking to get his attention that his rear wheel wasn't true.
I was hurt as he didn't seem to want to acknowledge me and share the love and brotherhood of cyclists. Finally he moved to the side. I was very much eager to help him out. But as I was pulling over to his side, he shouted very hurtful obsenities to him. I was afraid, very afraid and kept on driving. But I wanted to clarify things with him so I stopped. But out of nowhere this crazy biker slapped my side mirror. It was so sudden and hard I thought a gun had gone off. I wanted to get out of there as I knew he was very much mentally unstable. What did I do to deserve this? Why o why? What o what?
But he made a U-turn and oh my gosh is he going to whack me again? Wag po kooya. I am very shocked again when he did some obscene thigns with his hands, but relieved at the same time that that was all he did.
I thought that was the end of it. But after a minute he was there infront of me. I was really terrified on what this man will do, so I turned on my hazard sign and wanted to speed away so very very fast. As he turned (I think he was going to make a U-turn to whack me again, poor me), I quickly spend away, far far away.
Whew quite a workout. Everything happened in less than 5 minutes but it felt like forever! ;D

Haha! ;D ;D da best yun...
BEST experience for me was outrunning tricycles and cars along d Mapayapa Subd. road (the uphill/downhill stretch with BIG sloping humps- I whiz by the gutter whiile all the vehicles slow down for them when going uphill and jump!jump! while going DH) woohoo...
WORST was one morning when speeding along the same road an straydog suddenly darted in front of me. Hit 'm square on the trunk! I almost endo-ed, and my rear wheel got derailed (weird nga kasi rear wheel yung natanggal, not the front, hmm). The poor dog ran away like he was crazied or something.

worst: going home from talayan to sta. cruz, my usual route is going dapitan......after crossing railroad trail(w/c is the Blumintrit rail road tracks)...theres no car in front of me, i was just to start pedaling my pace fast, one old man suddenly cross the street out of nowere (kung baga....nakipag patintero sa kalsda with other cars also) in order just to get to the other side, well i hit the brake hard just to avoid the old man, coz he was so close already to me, what happen next is the bike throw me out infront, then fall on hard cement with my chin big cut......for me it was a terrible accident ive experience......what happen to the old guy.....he run away......i went home dripping blood on my chin.....park the bike then went to hospital for treatment....that was 2years ago....sept 10, 2004. God Bless everyone...ride safely..

worst experience was with a fellow cyclist. i came from maarat and was near the intersection going up to batasan. this corner is quiet busy because of the puv's loading and unloading passengers. there was this old cyclist who counter-flowed and we were on a head-on collision. i sensed a jeep just behind me and i was loathe to stop because of my clipless pedals. so what i did was to pass by the old cyclist within a hair's breadth. minura ba naman ako! buti na lang na-shock ako sa pagka-bastos niya at di ko din siya mabalikan! napakat a r a n t a d o ko pa naman pag galit ako...

best: when i was in New Manila watching a cyclist and a maroon van racing each other, or something like that.
worst: i was about to go home. I was cruising on a fast and comfortable speed of 25kph, then a comes a turn. Out of nowhere an FX suddenly overtook me on the turn with the barend almost touch his paint. if i was a complete newbie on the streets i might have fallen and met an accident. he was too fast, habulin ko sana.

the only bad thing I can think f is when people suddenly cross the street w/out looking They lacked vitamins nung lumalaki siguro
the best thing is during mtb rides , people mostly farmers you dont know offer to share meals w/ you " kain tayo" If they knew how much I ate , they'll think twice

Its not worth getting shot ;D
Worst: When I was on the biking at a slow pace on a side walk then this gate opened in my face. To my suprise the oldman who opened the gate became angry at me. The way he opened the gate was very fast that a lady was nearly hit (she was at the inner part of the side walk). There was no excuse on having a non see thru gate openning to the sidewalk. Worst not looking if hes gonna hit somebody while opening it.
Then this jerk yelled at me for riding on the sidewalk. I yelled back at him not for my sake but for the sake of other peds nearly hit by the gate...and I gave him the finger and rode off. ;D
