So so sad
she taught in Legaspi City from what I read in the newspapers ...my hometown
How can men / women be so evil as to hurt such a selfless human being ?!
They d better solve this (lespu, NBI, NPA etc). I also dont think that communist rebels killed her

i was shocked when i saw the Flash Report yesterday. Batad is a place i would hike solo, it's unthinkable someone would harm you there. our guide in banaue last year texted me last night to say she was found somewhere near the Junction, which is the most used jump off point for hikers. there would have been people there if she'd made it. she was already hiking back to banaue. read her blog (http://juliainthephilippines.blogspot.com/; ironically her last entry was titled "Buhay Pa Tayo"). she lived in donsol, sorsogon until october 2006, in the same community where some friends and i spent 2 summers in 2004 and 2005, working with whaleshark tourism. she even stayed for a while in the same resort where we stayed. i feel like i know her. this is really sad sad news

Arnel
I'm happy with the bunnyhop. If the culprits see how bad I bunnyhop you wont regret me doing it...I'd love to smash them.
My sympathies go to her family...to the killers I hope you remember that she was there to see the Banaue rice terraces' beauty and this is what you give her. May justice be served here and I'd love to see 'em behind bars and customers to prison maniacs.
Pls take time to read her blog

What a terrible thing to happen. A very senseless death. The fact that such a terrible end could come to a person who was doing so much good, makes her death that much more tragic. I read a bit of her blog and she truly cared for people. Not only was she making the world a better place, but she was helping people for the right reasons... out of compassion and to make people feel better. I'm very upset by the news and I don't even know her.
I hope her family can be at ease in the fact that Julia was loved by those she helped and came in contact with.
Read some of the recent comments on her blog... she was a very generous person and left positive impression on people she came in contact with. I hope to meet her in heaven some day.

i would like to inform you guys that the woman was a us peace corps volunteer, not a peacekeeper........ very much different bananas......
my kano uncle was a peace corps and he was assigned there (north) also during the 70s-80s....
but the peace/security is so much different then....
i remember a local climbing/outdoor magazine wherein a lady backpacker wrote about being heldup in banaue also.... that was in the late 90s......
yeah, gbb, only in the philippines because you dont have us peace corps volunteers in the US... heheheheh.... just like chinatown, no chinatown in china mismo........ heheheh...

The saddest truth is that a murder-free community doesn't exist, even in the most remote/isolated place where people are supposedly peaceful (think Norfolk Island ).... Motive and opportunity are the 2 basic prerequisites for murder to happen. Case in point, my last week's post mortem breakfast . Motive: revenge. Opportunity: the evil guy deceitfully made peace with the 59 y/o victim and waited 2 years for him to come home one moonless night alone and drunk before stabbing the poor guy 8 times in the face and neck. In Julia's case, if the reports are true. The motive is sex. Opportunity? Well, what could be a more favorable circumstance for a pervert than to see a beautiful woman hiking alone in the wilderness. He must have been waiting for that perfect chance all his life. Such predator.

Yup jaymz.... actually Im confused if this is a new story... well lets us thank...who else...mmmmm who do you think??? sad thing is, reports say...the killer is not a part of the community or the natives where the woman was slained...this causes a very bad image to those natives who earns from tourist as guides...the guy was a new comer... impertinent a-hole...may you suffer a lot of bruises from the inmates to which institue you'll be detained... (SARAP MAKIBUNTAL SA MGA GAYA MO...)
