I saw the thread on proposed venue for the next Federation climb and I'm really wondering if the mountaineering clubs here have run out of mountains to climb.
Wala na ba talagang bago?
I have my own list of mountains in RP that I haven't climbed and I'm quite sure the Federation has not held a meet in at least one of them:
1. Mt. Mayon (The last great problem- for me, at least) 2. Mt. Bulusan (We planned to, kaso pumutok) 3. Mt. Isarog 4. Mt. Matalingahan (We had second thoughts after Rey Langit's son died from mosquito bites thereabouts) 5. Cleopatras Needle (I don't care if its just as high as Maculot, the name is simply intriguing) 6. Mt. Dulang-dulang (Is it really higher than Kitanglad?) 7. Mt. Matutum (Pineapples as far as the eye can see) 8. Mt. Hibo-hibok (Next time i'm in Camiguin, talagang talaga na!) 9. Escarpado Peak (Again, very intriguing for me)
There many more of course, but these are, as Sir Edmund Hillary would say, the bastards I want to knock off first.
What's your list?

here's my personal top-14 2,000-meter project... that was... 1. Apo - North Cotabato 2. Dulang-dulang - Kitanglad Traverse - Bukidnon 3. Kanlaon - Negros Occ. 4. Halcon - Or. Mindoro 5. Baco - Occ. Mindoro 6. Pulag - Benguet 7. Amuyao - Mtn. Province 8. Tabayac/Tabeyo - Benguet 9. Mantalingajan - Palawan 10. Madja-as - Antique 11. Mayon - Albay 12. Guiting-guiting - Romblon 13. Tapulao/High Peak - Zambales 14. Malindang - Misamis Occ. technically, it's 15 why 'that was'... well... toxic job... got married... then kids happened... no extra time for myself na... ;D ;D climbed all, except 3 (or 4, for that matter) = #2 (both), #5 & #9 6. Mt. Dulang-dulang (Is it really higher than Kitanglad?) that's a yes. higher than pulag & kitanglad... but not formally known as the 2nd highest mountain. maybe because it's part of the kitanglad mountain range & kitanglad is the more popular peak of the mountain range so pulag is relegated to the 3rd spot & kitanglad to the 4th for fed to flock to a destination or a mountain, i think they need a sponsoring outdoor club to make it happen. it's not that the mountain/destination is not yet climbed to make them a fed destination. presently, the fed (i think, again) is considering a venue for multiple outdoor sport discipline as a destination, so not to destroy a mountain trail... usually on a fed climb these past years, an adventure race will be held, a bmc/classroom training will also be held... a climb... a swim, a tri or a mountain bike race may be proposed in one fed climb/event.

for me, hmm...i think i'm already factoring in family life so no major climbs in the next 10 years? ha ha ha. anyway here's my list.
1) Mt. Apo - i really want to do this 2) Mt. Halcon - just so i could test myself 3) Mt. Pulag - this time with my wife 4) Mt. Guiting guiting - more punishment 5) Mt. Banahaw - if it gets opened before i officially "retire" 6) Mt. Makiling - i want to do a 2nd traverse Sto. Tomas - Los BaƱos. i heard you need a guide if you come in from UPLB
any fun climbs are definitely welcome, i can climb, but i'm limited to day hikes. hush hush, i haven't been to.........gulugud baboy, batulao, manabo, sembrano. har har har ;D ;D ;D

@kulot-salot
Ah yes, Mt. Baco in Occidental Mindoro. I forgot about that one. In some guidebooks its called Iglit-Baco. Same for Madja-as- I like to do that sometime din. Dapat pala sumama na ako when the Fed climb was done there in the 80s.
And Mt. Tapulao/High Peak!
Is this now the highest peak in the Zambales mtn range? Kasi before, it was Mt. Pinatubo. But after blowing much of its top, I'm not sure.
When it comes to mountain ranges kasi, our group used to aim for just the highest peak in the range.
So sa Cordilleras, we've done Pulag and in the Sierra Madres we've done Mt. Oriod. Sa Zambales range dehins nga ako sure kung Pinatubo pa rin ang highest. Anyone?

Anyone? iglit-baco is another mountain (i think) if memory serves me right, it's a 1,000m+ mountain within the vicinity of the 2,000m monster REVISED: iglit is another mountain in the national park of iglit-baco, iglit is only 1,000m+ tapulao/high peak, since genesis, is much higher than pinatubo... never is pinatubo reach the 2,000m mark from wiki: <<< not accurate... lower slopes may have originated from mudslides, as experienced. for the main sierra madre mountain range, i think the highest is mount anucuao.... in aurora ata or isabela

@kulot-salot
Funny, but President Magsaysay named his presidential plane "Pinatubo" (yes, the one that crashed and killed him) because (well it was the belief then I guess) Pinatubo was the highest in the Zambales range. I guess I have to do High Peak para covered ko na pareho, ha-ha.
Ah OK, so Iglit is a different mountain. Well, if you ever do Baco, sana you post it here para others like me can join.
As for Mt. Oriod, we were quite sure it was the highest kasi we consulted several maps before doing it. Hmmm. All I know is that nobody yet in UPM (its logged as an official climb) has contested it. Anyway....
Too many mountains and so little time!

glock, have you climbed pinatubo before the 1991 eruption? if you did, i congratulate you! nobody will ever do a repeat of that!!! for baco, i'm not seeing myself in the near future doing climbs again... maybe after my youngest reach the age of 5 na... pwede na ulit humingi ng visa.... ;D for mount oriod, if i'm not mistaken it is in bulacan, right? from what i know it is within the 1,000meter mark... for the whole of the sierra mountain range, the highest is above 8,000feet... that would be over 2,000meters... and that is within the aurora & isabela area.

Sir, what about John Bachar or Dan Osman (rip ) I already told Jong I would tag along pag mag wawa sila ulit,so my son could watch actual rock climbing, so far he was only able to watch wall climbing in market2 I think its sandugo. sana one of this day kita-kita tayo dun probably because of the 500 fee kaya nabawasan/wala nang pumunta sa wawa

in 2005, the Tourism board of montalban declared a P500/activity fee conducted within the national park. may it be an individual/solo or group activity.... bummer we then staged a boycott of the area til last year. as per 12/31/07, aling norma informed us that the activity fee is now changed to P20/head.... mga ermitaƱo ng wawa:

Nope, I wasn't able to do Pinatubo before 1991. Sayang nga eh. I could have taken "Before" and "After" pics.
Yup, Oriod is in Bulacan. I'll check that one again. Meron kaya sa Google Earth? Hmmmm...
Ano na itsura ng Wawa today? I mean, the place near the dam? The last time I was there in 1999, I was saddened to see that the place has been overrun by squatters. Puro hollow block pa yung mga bahay! Some of the kubos were still there but overall, the place has lost its old charm. Sayang...

Hehehe yeah...funny isn't it? Since most of my days in davao was student pa ko. Dont have any money to spare for climbs and equipment. Now that I'm working, I can splurge on equipment na.... another problem set in... I was frequently assigned overseas. I'll have my chance soon, I'm wishing I'll climb it with my climb buddy/befren (my wife) and our climbing tropas. Missed organizing/planning trips like this.... mountaineer's dreaded word...ITINERARY ;D @warlock HUWAAAAAT??!!! Taga-Davao ka and you haven't climbed Apo??!! My goodness!!
