Ronaldarca, yes, it minimizes communication cost. you only pay for your electric bills which is very minimal. i got into this hobby during those times when boracay was not yet as popular as it is nowadays. We have a house near the island and there is no other means of communication except radio. So i decided to invest for radio equipments and antennas until it becomes my hobby as well. Cost depends on model of radio. HF rigs ranges from 10K to as much as 250K. while VHF or UHF rigs ranges from 5K to 25K. More importantly, HAM RADIO or AMATEUR RADIO as a hobby is a priviledge obtained by someone who are able to pass the NTC licensure Examination. Although there are those who operates illegaly, yet, it is best to work on something which is legal. I tell you, you will be very proud to carry your official assigned callsign by the NTC, proof of being a ligitimate HAM. You can easily identify a HAM riding on their cars when you see (other than radio antennas) stickers at their backglass or CAR PLATES carrying an NTC LOGO and callsigns like this: DU1RVP or DW1CGB or DV1TMF or 4F1UCZ. Jose Marie Gonzales (father of cristina gonzales) is an active HAM untill now. His callsign is DU1JMG. see link: www.qrz.com/du1jmg

boss benj,
i was once a radio amateur before, but only dy (4th class license), my license expired 5 years ago. i enjoyed the technical side of the hobby, building electronic projects, antennas and sometimes repairing some of the rigs for fun and profit. i stopped because i wasn't able to renew my license

See my QSL INFO at www.qrz.com. 73! benj, DV1RWP bossing, i used to be a member of DX2ISLA 8 years ago and How Copy group at 144.96MHz(5 years ago) . maraming taga ncr noon sa how copy. i even attended a club meeting in Bulacan coming all that way from Ilocos (those were the days ;D). I bet these groups doesn't exist anymore. btw, my former call was DY2EIR and i haven't renewed it since 2002(?). i still have some of my radios gathering dust (hostly handhelds and boosters, sold most of the units). due to my license restrictions before, i only operated at 2meters. i never upgraded my license mainly due to the morse code requirement (ayoko mag-under the table e ;D). i heard there are new regulations now about radio amateurs 73, duldog

DULDOG,
How Copy Group do still exist at 144.960, although im very sorry to say that this group has been verified with no legal papers, i mean, the group has no NTC-License.
Class-D are now automatically elevated to Class-C due to removal of morse code for lower classes except for Class-A. But if you have passed the 5-words per minute already, you dont need to take it anymore when you elevate to Class-A.
Madami akong kilalang taga DU2. si manong jimmy, wally, arnel, atty joey, gil, at madami pa. And of course kilala ko din ibang taga how copy, sila nognog, bulok, black shadow, manok, pinoytubo, kirara, bomber, tita ann, senior guadalupe, at madami pa. At makakalimutan ko ba naman ang Supremo na si Tito Billy (bmy), ngkita kami sa baguio last august. hahaha!
Hope you can go back to the hobby! 73!

its nice that they had removed the morse requirement. un kasi problema ko nun e i just simply don't know how to study the d@mned code.
i've met tito billy once in san miguel, bulacan in january 2001. he's a hell of a guy, super nice and lapitin ng chicks ;D

like Bernie, i like long drives...farthest i've driven in one journey is Manila-sorsogon-leyte-samar-cebu-negros oriental...then back... also used to enjoy off-roading in my 4x4 but something turned me into gulliver, the mt. biker instead, and i'm all the better for it would also trek with friends whenever i got the chance...that was when i was trying to balance my belly-enhancing 4-wheeling... like Allegra, i used to shoot and enjoyed competitive shooting (pero hangang club level lang), IDPA discipline naman... like MarkB, i luv to eat, and when inspiration hits me, i can cook a few tasty dishes, with emphasis on "few" and "eat" hehehe...tapos try a new restaurant with my wife every now and then... also enjoy ping-pong, PS2 (Ghost Recon and Vice City), watching movies at home, and Filipino and American tv sitcoms... and when kumander isn't watching, i enjoy appreciating the natural beauties around me ;D ;D ;D looks like we share some common interests. long interstate drives soothes me. with family ,job and all , i still manage to do it once or twice a year.once got addicted to Novalogic's delta force 2 online multiplayer gaming.stayed on one squad for four long years.yup that long, like your four high school years just spent on gaming lol. it was that addictive that time(clan site still up: nrasquad.com). also love dirt and anything that's goes boom. if u happen to still love four-wheeling i got some pics and videos below that might interest you lol.dont know how to direct u to the specific album(mt. morris atv trail) but feel free going through them. it's all public. me and my brother in law uploaded these images to document his visit here in michigan. he's an avid mtbiker in iloilo. as soon as he arrived, he asked to see my bike . the next day of course he wants to see the trails hehehe at low 30's temp.adik guid lol.(stoney creek album was hes first trail ride here) ooops i'm getting off topic.i'm into collecting old jazz-rock fusion vinyl albums(specifically mahavishnu orchestra, return to forever and weather report ).used to collect 1:6 scale toy soldiers and 1:18 scale vintage pick-up trucks but for luck of a proper display area, my daughter thought they were an extension of her playroom. i105.photobucket.com/albums/m212/michiganvacation/mt%20morris%20ATV%20trail/101_2068.jpgs105.photobucket.com/albums/m212/michiganvacation/mt%20morris%20ATV%20trail/?action=view¤t=101_2073.flv

I used to do Dragon boat rowing. One of the inactive members of Manila Dragons. I usually rode my bike to manila bay, row then bike home. But due to my current job restrictions I was forced to stick to biking only, and now I'm addicted to it.
I also use to collect and repaint Gundam scale models.
I also spend hours with my PS2 playing RPG

My most expensive hobby is computer, I've spent hundreds of thousands on this. I love RGP's and strategy games. Next is my bike, I've been a bike addict since grade school, playbike/small mt bike, then BMX on high school. And now I'm 26, M.T. bike.
Other hobbies: Mountain Climbing (1999 to present time but inactive) Music: I can live without TV/movies but music, not! I got a wide range of music collections, any genre. Birds: I got lots of African love birds. I fell in love with this birds since I was in high school. Recently, I just got hook into PSP, medyo addict na din.
