he he he, those cards are expensive, for 5 complete decks, i can get a really good bike component, he he he.
during college, some schoolmates even bought those clear plastic casing, not the thin one, but those hard ones similar to CD cases to house individual cards. i actually found it quite lame, shuffling a deck housed like that, then banging the case on the table, you can't even hold the cards straight, ha ha ha.

I used to be a level 2 tournament judge for MTG. I played on several Phil. Nationals, placed pretty well too. Too bad I was never on the National Team. My first MTB was bought from Magic the Gathering Tournament winnings and tournament judging. I still have some cards but none too current.
I stopped when I started working, I just don't have the time to play seriously anymore. It was good while it lasted. ;D

I remember playing a white winnie which I used to won to some local competition in our neighborhood, I miss those days, ngayon it seems that the famous card game is no fun at all because every month naglalabas nang panibagong Expansion its more of business. Yet I still have some of mah decks, my favorite of all time is the green stompy and white winnie, I hate playing with those STAsis dudes.

It's expensive alright. You'll just have to find ways to make money from it. The easiest is buy and sell which is also applicable for NBA cards. For others who are really good in playing, there is organized play. We have players who played abroad (Pro Tour, World Championships) partially if not all expenses paid as prizes for local qualifers and National Championships. Too bad, I barely missed the National Team twice. I have been to HK for free as a judge for the Asia Pacific Championships. Earned more than what I spent when I was in college from playing tournaments. I built up a Schwinn Moab from this.
About rotating expansions, it's what's keeping Magic alive. It's really a business. Magic is the first collectible card game and it's still alive. Most card games which came after already died out. Magic rotates or puts out new expansions so that the players are not bored with the current set and has something to look forward to.

WELL I CAN SAY THAT PLAYING MAGIC THE GATHERING IS PRETTY EXPENSIVE.. Im still an active player though. It hinders me from spending that much on my bike upgrades. maybe next year Ill quit playing and focus on my bike...the bottomline is I cant afford to fell in love with both..something has to go..

old skul ako sa inyo. type 1 player ako. hehehe. i still have two decks left. i played circa 95. budget decks. no moxes. hehehe. i'm so geeky! when i used to work for this company, i had several fellow employees who played the game too. so i decided to bring back to life my old cards. had to rumage for some of the old cards i have, and purchase some to complete the deck. was surprised that modern players dont care much about the old cards since none of them are playable in type 2 competitions. so i was able to buy those type one cards that were sought after so much back then when i was in college. some of my old officemates dropped by the other week and wanted to purchase one of my decks. i immediately thought " makakabili na ata ako ng wheelset na bago!" hehehehe. my two decks by the way are library depletion and hand discarder. game na. laban na. marvs- errata, revisions, and card classification is what prompted me to stop playing. just when i was able to build a deck strong enough to kick ass, they classify it's core as type 1. that's why i only play old skul players. those who have decks/cards within Revised, 4th Ed., Ice Age, and a little bit more. not the modern ones. sakit sa ulo e.

there are still type one tourneys beingheld..how i wish i was born earlier,i missed the chance of getting those power nines..some of which cost aorund one car already...if you want to compete with fellow type 1 players i know a place..right now if you want to play and spend less oyu rather play type one than type two due to rotating expansions on type two format..while sa type 1 if u have the cards before you can cherish them lifetime.although there are also times you need to upgrade or buy new cards to strengthen it...BTW do you still have hypnotic specters? he he he

i still have hypies and hymns. hehehe. first turn two dark rits, two hymns then one rack! hahahaha. san me naglalaro ng type 1 old skul? after reading this thread last night. i rumaged my cabinet to look for my old deck. hehehe. i'm gonna warm them up nga with a shuffle. draw seven na!

actually hypnotic specter has been reprinted . he now belongs to the 9th ed and was upgraded from uncommon to rare making the value go up.said to say dark ritual is only type 1 and 1.5 legal..anyways tournaments for type 1 are held at tondo at a card shop there every sunday.some of the players there are from as far as cavite and from bulacan.there are power nine users there, some suiblack and other decks..heres the forum about magic .btw same user name pa rin ako dun... 7th.realm.com.ph/forum/index.php?s=2a7666bf325927ceea34ed7c12ff3433&www.neutralgrounds.net/talk/index.php

I play MTG duing college (4th edi/ice age) Still have those medyo expensve cards , like demonic tutor, wrath of god, jakollups. collection na lang ako,Last year lang uli ako naglaro kaso magastos, I remember it cost me 3Kto 5k ata to complete a tooth and nail deck (mirrodin/kamigawa cycle). I love the art and strategy of the Ravnica. I think I'll collect na lang FAT PACK, kasi when building a deck it will cost u more. Tapos pag natapos ang cycle wala na ang halaga nang card mo. Except yon ibang 4th edition. There is a lot of great players in Cavite, yon balance nang deck (1/3 to 2/3 rule) alam na alam nila. ;D by the way mas gusto kong mag-bike na lang kasi marami akong napupuntahan ;D

Good to see a lot of PMTBers who played Magic and other CCGs. It may be expensive at first, but if you are good enough you can earn back everything and get even more just from playing tournaments. NG gives out more $$$ in terms of prizes in a year than the MTB races we have here combined. It just takes a lot of time and intellect. That's from a competitive point of view. Casual players tend to spend more and get less in terms of return of investment unless they buy and sell.
Cards rotating out or being obsolete have more positive effects than those who came up with just a few sets. The biggest result is that its the oldest CCG and yet it's still the strongest in terms of the number of players worldwide. New sets spark additional interest and invites new players to come in. Imagine if there were no sets rotated out in the tournament environment, then only the people who either started earlier or have the most money can win. Newbies will be turned off because there is no way they can compete. But since there is always a new set for Type 2, a newbie can catch up and be competitive with not so big of an investment.
My cards are collecting dust too since I cant find time to play between my family, work and working out (which includes biking). Maybe PMTBers who play Magic can meet up someday for a casual beatdown.

I was an Magic The Gathering addict also, around 10 years ago. Still got my cards (around 1300 of them), no moxes or other really expensive cards, but mostly 4th Edition and Ice Age. My fave deck was a white/blue defensive deck. Took ages to get down, didnt really win a lot, but it was sweet when really clicking. REally gave opponents fits. Did anyone collect all those multicolor dragons?

MTG cards were a craze back in my college dorm days. The boys would play til the wee hours of the morning, and then spend the whole day talking about their cards. I've played these cards too pero hiram lng ng deck. But the card game that really hit our dorm bigtime was the good ol' red dog and pusoy...pustahan na!

It should just be for PMTBers or friends who has been off it a while. We'd be spending a lot of time in case peeps with a lot of newer cards show up. If it's tourneys open to all, Neutral Grounds always has that. Just check their sched.
Yep, the best place would be either Neutral Grounds Glorietta or Galleria. Just name time and place, I'll try my best to be there.
