What defines success?
Success is achieved in varying degrees. Success is being able to send your kids to school when your parents didn't send you. Success is being able to speak a language fluently when your parents don't. Success is being able to provide your kids a helping hand, so that they will be ready for opportunities that come everyday.
I don't think success includes winning a P50M lottery, although it does changes the playing field and provides a different scenario.
I don't think success depends on your employer, your parents, or your religion. Can't even blame the government too much...
My question is...
What are the values, morals, habits, attitudes, customs, special factors that make people successful? Why are some people winners and achievers while some aren't?
On the contrary, What are the things that stop us from achieving?
What defines success? in sports, in relationships, in life?

a young man asked socrates the secret of success. socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. they met. socrates asked the young man to walk with him into the river. when the water got up to their neck, socrates took the young man by surprise and swiftly ducked him into the water. the boy struggled to get out but socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue. socrates pulled the boy’s head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and take a deep breath of air. socrates asked him, "what did you want the most when you were there?" the boy replied, "air". socrates said, "that is the secret of success! when you want success as badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it!" there is no other secret. curahee!

success is when you have been constipated for a long time and finally being able to bring it out thats the sweetest feeling .... success Hahahahaha! theres a tv ad about this, i just cant remember what it is right now. heres a little story about success... i have this rider friend who told me about his two uncles. his first uncle is rich... well he got rich. the guy is an official in Customs (wink, wink) but his reputation is aheemm, well i think you guys know what i mean. on top of that he became a snob when he got rich and also mapang-mata. (whats that in english?) his second uncle on the other hand was a simple employee in a company and was so for a long time. but this one was different, he was the kind of guy who would go out of his way to help out a friend, relative or anyone in need without asking for anything in return. my friend was very passionate when he was talking about his second uncle, i can feel how much he loved and respected him. then this uncle died. (we came to talk about this cause we do our practice rides in Manila Memorial park) he told me that the funeral was unbelievable, so many people showed up. even those from the provinces were present. even the barako friends and co-workers were publicly wailing in grief for the guy. he said he never saw anything like it. it just goes to show how much love and respect everyone the guy knew had for him. the first uncle was there as well ("the successful one"). i wonder how he felt seeing all of that?

go to the cemetery, imagine how it would be like when you're on your deathbed . . . how would you like to look back on your life? that would define success for you.
It'd be different for each one, so there's really no point in comparing, no point in following what the world thinks is success. A career woman who gives up her executive job to raise her kids? Some would say it's a waste, others would say it's a noble act. A teacher who gives up school to enter the corporate rat race? Nurses going abroad for greener pasture? Husbands staying at home to raise their kids? Businessman giving his all to create a multi-million dollar empire? Bumming around on a beach somewhere in Palawan?
Everyone has their moments of success and failures. Problem is, we only see the success and we think this person has it all and we want to be like that person. Some of the most successful people failed many many times, but sometimes we only remember that one time that person succeeded.
Just look at our wonderful sport. Is the one who gets to the top the best rider? Or the one who can ram down the mountain at 60kph while singing la vida loca? But sure as hell all those great riders where newbie once, and they probably fell, many times. But kept coming up (even when their wives, gfs, doctors) were telling them to stop and that it was crazy. As the British SAS motto goes, 'Who Dares Wins' Failure, or at least the risk of it, is a big part of success. Those who keep on going when they had every chance to turn back.
I remember a story we read back in HS, about Glenn Cunnigham. The guy had polio and got his legs burned. Doctors told him he will never walk again. But he tried. They'd often see him on the floor infront of his wheelchair, after attempting to walk. Gradually, he managed a few baby steps. Around the kitchen. Then around the house. from a walk, to a jog, to a run . . . he would eventually go on to set the world record in the 1,500 meter dash.
Let's ride!

i remember reading an article before regarding this question..."if you are so smart, why arent you rich?"
according to the article, this particular question could really stump a lot of people...i think its easy to answer though if you have a clear idea of what you want or want to achieve.
its not always wealth, fortune and fame.

Success actually depends on a person... just like "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
For me, this what I think about success: "To be successful in life is to be happy with what you have and having the people around you happy as well."

The Jap hamburger resto? Authentic japanese also. The thing opens automatically when you enter the CR, washes your %^#(different angle of attack depending on your sex), air dries it too.

A friend's business was taking off and she hired her professors in business school as consultants A year later , I asked about the consultants and she said she had let them go They were too negative , scared to take risks and took so long to study a project it was bought by someone else before it was approved Great fortunes are built thru instinct , not by studying bars and graphs - Donald Trump I think haha
