I would just like to share an incident the other day at the house.
The outlet where I connect my computer (and stereo, rice cooker, electric pot, etc) using an OCTOPUS got fried.
Yes, folks. A fire broke out.
I was told (too late the hero) by everybody at home that they have been hearing clicking sounds (indication that the electrical connection was turning on and off, probably due to corrosion or mechanical failure, meaning maluwag na).
The clicking sounds is, from my educated wild guess, coming from the appliance itself.
Some appliances, when turned on, or off, makes a clicking sound.
Now imagine if you were to cut a live wire into 2, and then try to connect them by hitting one end to the other, a spark is created.
That spark can start a fire.
and it did. A fire erupted.
Smoke and the smell ensued. That kills.
Luckily, we live in Tondo/Binondo, where a condo the size of a rathole allows you to reach any part of the house in a few steps.
The maid kept shouting the name of the other maid, for whatever reason I don't understand, because the other maid is even more immature than the first.
Anyway, I grabbed the fire extinguisher, pulled out the safety pin, and in my excitement, squeezed the trigger pointing up while jumping all over to reach the fire. So a cloud of confetti appeared.
Then I got my senses back and pointed the extinguisher and this time, aimed properly and gave 2 quick squeezes. the fire was immediately put off.
Twas a close call, beside the octopus connection was my computer, with 200GB worth of data.
On top of the table a week old 19" Viewsonic LCD widescreen (the best folks!), the electric pot and the rice cooker and the micro-component... and my work! loads of CDs and DVDs of my clients!
So a friendly reminder!
Keep those fire extinguishers handy at home!
