What is the odds of winning a raffle in a supermarket chain? Its a complete grocery the size of Glori's or Eunilane. Here are the datas. 5 supermarkets 3500 customers per shop everyday. 350 pesos purchase =to 1 raffle ticket weekly draw 500 pesos purchase= to 1 raffle ticket Mega draw 10 Major prices only for the Mega daw Raffle ran for 3 months and mega draw is 2 days after I bought the goods. I have 2 mega draw Raffle tickets. Can you please help me. I dont know if this is the right place to post this thread.

Hello PinoyMTBiker, I have a question so I hope somebody there who is very good at math can help me or enlighten me. Here it is. What is the odds of winning a raffle in a supermarket chain? I have 2 mega draw Raffle tickets. Can you please help me. I dont know if this is the right place to post this thread. The odds of winning in a supermarket raffle is... let's use the word: FAIR. It means because it is a raffle, there is a winner. Unlike hoping to get the winning tansan (bottle cap) where there might be no winner or 395 winners, in a raffle, there is transparency. One lucky customer wins. Whether you are that lucky winner or not depends on your aura. Luck, you see, is based on a person's aura, or destiny, if you will. By being positive in life, luck becomes you. By being helpful in life, lucky becomes you. Mathematics or statistics work only in paper, the presumption is that numbers are continous and constant. But life is not constant, different factors affect. So... Everybody knows YOU'RE THE MAN. So it's just a matter of time. Good luck!

ENZO, i can't believe i'm actually not writing a report for my boss so i can think about this ;D your information is incomplete. we don't know how many raffle tickets are awarded to shoppers daily, because although we know how many shoppers there are daily, we don't know how much they purchase in total. so let's just assume each shopper who visits the supermarket makes a 500-peso purchase and gets 1 Mega raffle ticket. 3,500 shoppers x 5 stores = 17,500 shoppers daily = 17,500 Mega raffle tickets daily 17,500 tickets x 90 days (promo duration) = 1,575,000 Mega raffle tickets will be given away to shoppers for the entire duration of the promo. you have 2 of these tickets in your hand. how small or big are the odds against your winning? according to funny2.com/odds.htm, the odds of winning an Olympic medal is 1:662,000. and the odds of being struck by lightning? 1:576,000. in other words, very small. but it's been known to happen. goodluck! ;D

Gadget88, Its along shot then, Unless I am very lucky or some peoples wish or prayers or thoughts sent a positive vibration or good karma. What do you think? Forget the odds , I've tried it already Did yuo know there really are lucky people? Lucky sa sugal I mean I used to operate an online gaming franchise for our town. There were at least 3 people who would win minor prizes ( 10t to 40t ) sometimes 2 - 3weeks in succession. These guys are regular winners , and they tell me they always win kahit sa sabong basta gambling Each one would bet only one ticket Then there are people like my mom , who would buy a basketfull of tickets and the only thing she won was a refund

Whoopi, Yup! you're right! Maybe 1.2million according to my calculation coz some may not buy goods worth 500 for the Mega raffle ticket and some may buy 1000 or more for multiple mega tickets. And the shop is actually busy with trolleys always full. You know Pinoys. We love eating and shopping. What if I won two mega raffle prices for the 2 tickets I have? Double the odds? A long shot indeed. But I've always been lucky. Anyway, I put them under my kids' name.
Allegra, Thanks! I will post the newspapers ad/result tomorrow.

ALLEGRA, there's a hispanic movie like that, "INTACTO". the premise is there are people who more often than not beat the odds. some of these people play against one another for horrendous stakes (mas challenging ang laro if you play against another lucky fellow di ba, so dapat higher stakes). like, they'd bet a finger. and then among these underground gambling dens there's an olympic competition of sorts. agents try to look for "talents" to develop, like survivors of plane crashes. then they conduct "games", like they blindfold everyone in a forest and then someone without a blindfold will run ahead and would keep shouting. the blindfolded contestants would try to chase the shouting runner by following the sound of his voice. they must run or else they would lose the sound of the runner's voice. so the less lucky ones would soon run into a tree. the luckiest one of all would manage to avoid all disasters. as you win more competitions against other lucky people, you go up a notch until you can challenge the luckiest b*stard, the reigning champ. and the stake there is your own life. they play a reverse russian roulette. they load a gun with a single bullet. the challenger gets to shoot at the champ first. if the gun does not fire, the champ takes his turn and shoots the challenger. and so on until luck runs out for one of them. bizarre and fascinating ;D ENZO, yup, about 1.5M odds in my scenario. since you hold 2 tickets, split the odds and that's 1:750K chance for each of your tickets. good luck!

a known member of akyan bahay was caught in the act by a homeowner in the second floor of his house...cornered by the owner who was armed with a pistol, the guy jumped thru the window into the yard crisscrossed with wire sampayan but managed to avoid them..landed very hard and tripped but a blanket on the sampayan cushioned his fall..before he could manage to stand up the homeowner popped two shots from the 2nd flr window..he missed...the robber run like mad and out to the gate he went...outside the gate was very busy two way road..without even looking he just crossed the road..a speeding PUJ missed him just by a hairbreadth...tanods and some tambays were alarmed and gave chase..but in the end he managed to evade them all.
the robber, on his way home, having left his slippers in the process of escaping walked bare footed...just a few yards from the door his house he stepped on makahiya weed and a torn embedded itself on his foot...few days later he died of tetanus.
what do you think of that?

Lamok. it's more of instinct of self-preservation, calculated risk coz he is aware of the danger, not unforeseen circumstances. And the odds of getting tetenus from makahiya is a long shot even if tetenus is actually in the soil itself. His time isa up ;D ;Dprobabaly. ;D

US$2,450 worth of goodies? not baaaad! ;D but even if that were cash, that'll get you only 200+ votes at Php500/voter (the going rate for congressman in my province).

luck is luck...but when it comes to those gamblers who are making a living out of it, i dont think luck has much to do with it...these people see numbers in different way than us normal people...these people can even read faces, the way you talk, the way you breath, the way your eyes move and can interpret body movements that we simply ignore...those who only use luck will most likely to end up broke. sabong, horse race etc are almost complete science. just my 2 cents

Parang alam nila agad they'll win and they win it everytime! and ...my daughter's one of them hehe too bad 10year olds are not allowed inside casinos I'm sure there are high rollers out there winning on even larger scale

Guys, When it comes to gambling, the house always have the upper hand, Have you give it a thoug that you will win only X8 of your bet when there are 10 spots to bet on plus they are the dealer and the one who shuffles the cards. Or even in games like lucky 9, black jack, 41,or 44 etc. If you are the dealer or banker, if you win, you will take all the bets or winning from you opponents so you have a big take unlike if 1 guy will only win and will pay only one. Plus gambling is math. there are 52 cards and if you are good, you will remember which card has been out and which is not and the rolling of the cards from the other opponents. Im very good with gambling but there are also cheating and there are very very good shufflers of cards in casinoes. About that PCSO, Dont tell me guys you believe it? Investigating it then winning the it at the same time, or when the heat was unbearable. Only in the Phils. Okay here is the result. 1st price and 9th price. Will post the pics from the papers later

Whoopi,
Everytime we do our weekly grocery buying, There is this delivery man who reach us home and help us with the cart. we normally give him 10DHS which is = 130 php. And one time my son insisted handing him the tip. Since then, he said that It should be my son who will give the tip coz everytime he does he average like 100AED tips compare to his average of 40 only. He is the lucky one not me, Anyway, Im lucky already having both kids.

Whoopi,
I'll tell you a nice story of one lady who used to work in our company, She resigned and just go out every two months on a visit visa which she buys for 400USD. She cooks some foodstuff(KAkanin) and peddle them around malls and offices to get by. But the husband is in the same situation also so time is really hard for them. She will always made it a point to go to my office and sell the food like worth 10AED as first sales or "Buena Mano" coz everytime I made buena mano, the whole two baskets are sold out. I thought it was a come on to make good sale or marketing tool baga. Till I found out that she needs to go somehwere else farther and out of the way of my office and if she is late, she will even take a taxi to and from my office before going to her other delivery, spending more than what I bought. Even on credit as long as I pick any food first. Well, I was just happy I can have merienda even if I dont have money in my pocket so never put it deep in my mind. Until, one day her husband came to me and said that she's back home in the phils working on her papers to get a good paying job, and If i need something from there. I didnt know that he needs to get out of the country in 5 days time and the wifey not here, it will be very hard. Everything was in deep Sh&t. So I called her not knowing their situation asked her if she can bring me two spare bike chain which my brad will bring to her place. The moment I spoke she cried and said their situation and she cannot come here cos the airlines and immigration said you cannot go out of the country on a visit visa with a one way ticket. Which is true. She said that Im their only hope and if her hubby cannot go out, he will be blacklisted. All I said was put@#$na! Why did I ever call you and those are the most expensive chain if I will count your return ticket too. But knowing me she said "I knew you wont let me down and I will pay you the moment I get the money". So I bought her a ticket, got my expensive Dura ace chain and forget this things happened. I already put it in my mind that it will take years if not months before she can repay me coz of their situation. The 2nd day she was here, she called me crying again and saying If not for you I would have not been here and won this raffle. She bought some food worth 23AED from the 30 I gave her as taxi money after she gave me the chain and decided to walk to buy their food. She won half a kilo of gold worth something like 50KAED=13,700USD. I hit the roof and was happy for her. she asked me how much money she needs to pay and I just said the same amount she borrowed plus 5aed pansit which she doesnt make now. Everybody was calling and saying if not for me or so many suppositions where said and some even said I should get something from it. Which is wrong. God knows its her time so thank you Lord! I may be instrumental but it is still her luck or fate. I always said that nothing is coincidence. What can you say about this.
