Most likely there is a device or an auditor or whatever that monitors it given ABS-CBN came out with those rating numbers a couple of months back. If I rememebr right, the add went, Do you know who ACNielsen is? ACNielsen is one of the leading market data provider in the world. So if they came out with those numbers they must be doing some sort of audit. Most likely this is based on a sample of the population only, perhaps they have an auditor on-ground, perhaps it's via survey, etc. Given the behavior of the masa is more or less similar, then they would only need a very small sample of the population perhaps to get their data. i couldn't bear not knowing, so i looked it up ;D according to wikipedia (hooray!) nielsen uses both methods: the survey and by attaching a thingy in your TV. the urban legend is true pala. but i think the local TV stations here get results from the thingys, kasi their results are to-the-minute and daily. ok, how about this. i noticed that teens nowadays are more open to their sexuality. i see lesbianism to be very openly accepted nowadays. i always see really young girls, holding hands, kissing, hugging in public (malls esp.) not minding and doesn't even care what other people will say or think. lots of gays as well.and they're not afraid to show how gay they are! yah, more people are going fishing at brokeback mountain ;D

GENTLEMEN - ON THE VERGE OF EXTINCTION
I guess most of us already noticed,it's already rare that we see men who offer their seats on the bus, train etc. open doors for others and all the characteristics of a true gentleman.
There was this one time when i was in the train(standing).and eveyone just boarded. on the right row there were ladies and a couple of guys sitting.in front of that row was an old lady, maybe in her late 50's,standing.as the train was moving,i was waiting for one of the guys in that row to stand up and offer the old lady a seat,as the train stopped at the next station, there was this girl,a nursing student(w/c is a common sight nowadays)who stood up, took her things (she got thick books etc in a paper bag and offered her seat to the old lady.i thought she was getting off at that station but no,she just stood there.imagine the look on the rest of the guy's faces when they saw it happening point blank.i smirked a bit, napailing na lang ako.can't believe what i just witnessed.and i see similar situations everyday when i go to/from work.what a shame.
can't blame the government for that.
endangered species.haaay........

without necessarily trying to be apocalyptic, the developments happening in the middle east particularly israel vs. palestine(hamas) and lebanon(hezbollah) is something worth watching. thats what i have noticed lately.

The "gentlemen" is gone together with the "ladies". One cannot be without the other. dati , on the LRT1 Me: Ale upo na kayo dito Ale: Shrugs and ignores me Me: to myself> leche ka, may exclussive female coach sa unahan ng Lrt dito ka pa na magisa ka lang at magpapasikip leche ka. I wouldnt give my seat to a young girl, woman but I would give my seat to the elderly (man/woman) or to the pregnant. hehe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I noticed that ABS CBN is konvenyently tagalizing words to be yusd as der hedlayn in der nyus brodkast even though there are common Filipino words for those. That is plain stupid.

here's the Gentlemen Hong Kong Version Once I was on the MTR (mass transit railway) I offered my seat to a pregnant woman even I'm full with stuff (frame on one hand, several components on the other and the usual messenger bag on my shoulder. yes, bike parts shopping spree, ) coz nobody seems to care. Right after I stood up, the "gentleman" nearby boxed her out and grab the seat. Even with couples, the ladies will first ask the gentlemen to take a seat before them. It's sad. For me, my seat will always go to the elderly, pregnant women and persons with little kid(s) to attend to.

sir bee, i think its the culture... i also seen something like that in lrt-1... a chinese (mainland or taiwan, i dunno) family rode the lrt, but there was only one vacant seat... the father/husband took the seat... the 2 children & wife was left standing, holding on the railings... also, my boss told me so when i was in guangzhou last year that men are supposed to be more superior tha women... i also verified this when i opened a resto door in the same city for a female acquaintance... she told me she (they, chinese women) is not accustomed to being treated that way... it's strange (daw) for us filipinos to act that way because men are perceived to be higher in stature(?) in society... go figure... maybe other PinoyMTBiker members can validate this...

I agree, Jaymz. It must be the culture. But I must say, the younger generation is a different story. Many (but still not all) of them are more sensitive and caring. pahabol: hahaha... when it comes to culture, iba talaga ang pinoy. In a cosmopolitan city like hong kong, birthdays celebrations are like this: you get invited in a resto, you will chip-in for the food and drinks (it's divided equally). One "gweilo" said: "It's amazing to get invited to a "pinoy" birthday party. everything is free." ;D ;D ;D

\... it's strange (daw) for us filipinos to act that way because men are perceived to be higher in stature(?) in society... go figure... Well the origin of many western customs such as holding doors open for women and letting women sit while men stand stems from the assumption that women were incapable of doing it themselves. I guess the eastern cultures (chinese, specifically, in this thread) practised sexism by giving the men first dibs on the good stuff while women get whatever's left. Western cultures practiced sexism by depicting women as weak, fragile creatures that constantly need looking after by strong, macho men.

hmmmm oo nga no. just an aside, women are always clammering for equal rights . . . BUT not always equal responsibility hehehehe e.g. ROTC. Why is it that only the men are required to waste their Sat afternoon marching around in preparation to gloriously defend this country in time of war? Dapat girls din! So there, take the All Exclusive Female Train lady or wait for the next train where you can sit down. I'm tired and I took a rountrip to have this seat hehehehe (hell I'm bored in the office)

hmm..i dont think westeners are fools...men are stronger physically speaking and they know that...and they know how to treat their women properly..san ka ba makakakita ng influential and powerful women kundi sa west...eastern ways on the other hand are little bit rudimentary...malapit-lapit pa sa hayop...but both cultures are evolving..eventually siguro maginging parepareho nalang yan...cept maybe the talibans hehe!

one thing is that women always wanted equality,i guess for some men it's how they see it.
same as the others,i'll offer my seat to the elderly, w/ kids, women carrying loads of stuff.
i remember one time when me and my mom was on a bus bound to bulacan, its like an hour and a half travel time.there was this lady(a bit attractive,i was just like 11 i think and very curious) who was standing at the aisle next to my seat, i offered her my seat.and she took it and smiled then said "come sit here on my lap".............best bus ride ever. hehehehe
point is,it pays to be a gentleman.hehehe

Actually, if you look at which countries have had female heads of state (presidents and whatnot), you'll see Asians leading the count: Jiang Qing (Mao's widow) - China Song Qingling - China Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga - Sri Lanka Corazon Aquino - Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo - Philippines Indira Gandhi - India Megawati Sukarnoputri - Indonesia

no argument there..you can include benazir bhutto, khaleda zia and...our very own imelda marcos (?) if israel is still part of the east (?) maybe we can also include golda meir...but thats not exactly what i meant by it...not limited to national leaders...saka i dont think the "general" culture of a given nation had something to do with the rise of these women kung meron man more of individual pursuit and determination...and we all know na dehins naman absolute ang culture..may mga dehins sumusunod dyan kahit sa afghanistan..actually our culture here eh mas malapit sa west kahit na asian country ito. i read an article regarding most influential women of the millenium..the top thirty includes lawyers, civil rights activist, writers, environmentalist, queen, scientist, educator etc.
