hee hee, that's true with me too! ;D once the upgrade virus bites, it just spreads into your system! and when the time comes and you proudly look at your bike and say you're so happy with it and nothing to upgrade anymore, what happens?? you get a 2nd bike and gasp! start the whole upgrading cycle again! ;D

Once you start to appreciate singlespeeds, fixies, and retro bikes, you stop upgrading. Of course you then start collecting those rare vintage parts, but that's another story.

Well, since you asked I stopped when I realized upgrading didnt really improve my skills as a biker When I noticed that guys with mall bikes were makin me eat their dust My skills are not enough ( maybe I'm just dense ) to notice the advantage of the high end frames I dont know about anyone else but the Deore shifts just fine to me Avid mechs are darn good na Interval training makes my bike lighter and my wheels easier to pedal I really dont notice the weight difference of a 28 lb bike and a 35lb bike.Lalo na I usually have a 5lb hydartion pack on my back And finally, wala ng tatalo sa DBR frame!

i did a different approach, he he he, i would upgrade only if a component is broken. i realized that if i keep upgrading, i will be able to get parts of my choice, but my left over parts will be enough to assemble another bike which most likely resembles the first bike i started with (which is what happened to my friend).
besides, i don't have dough for too much upgrades, he he he.

"change is the only constant thing in this world" change is a form of adaptation ergo survival.. guided change helps us to be better.. but there is still the factor called "effciency" that has to be considered before change.. ;D

I upgrade when i notice the part either holds me back or is broken. My seat hits my legs so i need a new frame smaller frame since Im buying a new one I will look for something better and my hubs are giving in bec it cant stand the abuse so I need something stronger hehe.
Maybe when I learn the proper skillls i will upgrade by buying a downhill / freeride bike and when Im old and weak im getting a light XC bike hehe. If the time comes i cant walk i will upgrade to a wheelchair bike thingie (whats it called?) hehe

I think this is a good policy but I admit though that this takes a lot of discipline to follow. Speaking from experience, myself and on others that I have observed, the upgrades keep on coming from the time you start until one reaches a certain plateau. That plateau is different for different riders. The few factors that affect where a rider's plateau are the rider's buying capacity, skill, access to parts desired, peer pressure, etc.. Once in that Plateau, the upgrades become few and far in between. For me, the plateau came after the upgrade to my first FS, disc brakes.
Of course, there are a lot of exceptions( hehehe). So to control myself, I try to keep the policy of buying only when you don't have the item yet or when you have to replace a broken/ wornout/lost/given away part. And to wear them out, you have to keep on riding 'em

i did a different approach, he he he, i would upgrade only if a component is broken. I bought my current bike January this year, and I told myself I'd do something like this and only upgrade after 1 YEAR... So far, I've only "upgraded" my pedals (from platforms to clipless). I've changed my saddle, grips, tires, and inner tubes all because they needed to be changed (either worn out or broken). So for nearly 8 months, i've been able to follow my promise to myself. But just today, I've been seriously thinking of "upgrading" my frame, crankset, BB, and cogset! Took me about 4 beers to mellow down and realize that I don't really need to Hope when I wake up tomorrow, the upgrade virus has left my mind... Hehe P.S. Kating-kati na akong pumunta sa Quiapo at tumingin ng pwedeng bilhin!
