Day 5 Yokosuka Naval Base I rode the train from Silver trekkie's crib to Yokosuka Naval Base. Was I petrified, scared, confused, and about ready to quit trying to understand how to ride around Tokyo Railway system, this being my first attempt? Hell Yes! I'd rather not dwell how I succeeded in reaching Yokosuka Naval Base and back to loving handlebars of my high performing querida (silver trekkie). It was nightmarish experience. It sure popped me out of my full retirement mantra and immediately resorted back to foxholish alertness less I get lost in japanese railway system for days on end Imperial Japanese Navy while on liberty troops out of Yokosuka Naval Base. Welcome home...PaPi Rock Typical on-base quarters my family stayed in for 15 years while stationed in Japan Can't help but post ship anchor chain you weight weenies can use to secure your mtbikes on Glorietta's parking slots. Naval Base has its fair bite of McDonald's also. McDo cheesequarter pounder fronting Tokyo Bay...goodie goodie Brought back sweet memories of my wife, son and daughter bonding and playing while military brats on an otherwise lazy afternoon. Golly. I meez chow hall food. Seriously, my tummy is grumbling just thinking how good the servings are. Marines have to stay fit and in shape. Purdy Fitness Center sure dwarfs any commercial fitness center. And look. Who came back to Department of Defense Dependents School Japan after absence of 10 long years? RJ (my son) no less who studied grade school til high school under DoDDS Pacific Japan. Kitty Hawk Aircraft Carrier. Bought basic necessities at the exchange the likes Cliff Power Bars. Time on deck is 2230. Too exhausted after a full day's visit on base. Have to go back pa to Shinjuku 65 kms away. Hopefully, I have japanese train system down pat?

Padi Rocky Enjoy you vacation there just keep posting your fabolous adventure there, ride safe, godspeed Thanks for encouraging Silver trekkie to post more...rainbow63. Will do...I guess. I am afraid I may be abusing my posting privilege after having shared dozens of pictures. Pero I am using the Lounge Area (Travel, Food. and Leisure) thread naman diba? So I cannot be stepping on anybody's foot and be accused of going... OT. Besides it gets to be kinda lonely riding solo also in a foreign land where its system works opposite we NoyPi's are accustomed to. By sharing with you Silver trekkies travelogue, we keep each other company. Thus, alienation becomes bearable. Our shared passion for making padyak (mtbiking) is reinforced. All I need to do is to Smile as PinoyMTBiker and Tokyo smiles with me too. Nothing disarms more than Smiling . Smiling is a universal passport that always extricates me out of difficult situations here...everytime. Today Day 6 is Sunday...time of worship, and a day to rest. Tomorrow...Day 7...I plan to bike along Sumida River route of Tokyo. I am flushed with excitement of course, because Japanese Riverways is a must experience. I will cap the bike tour with fresh seafood meal by famous Tsukiji Fish Market.

Day 7. 59F. Wind 5km/h. No. Not fugu fish...sir Ti-bar. We both know how good tasting it is. But I'd rather Not take chances and face the risk. I was told best sushi for breakfast can be had at Tsukiji Fish Market though. It is where 'live' fishes from Palawan are flown in on same day newly caught. Geez. Am famished na just imagining how yummy Tsukihi sushi is. Okidoki. Later guys. Time on deck is 0548 Monday. I will commence river tour na with breakfast of best tasting sushi at Tsukiji Fish Market. Silver trekkie crossing several bridges to reach Tsukiji Fish Market Signs are evident that seaport is not far away Tsukiji Fish Market. Location of this sushi bar was inside Tsukiji fish Market premises. I chose Kiku Set for breakfast. Very fresh. Perfect 10 for color plus texture. After carbo loading on most delicious nigiri-sushi at Tsukiji, I proceeded to bike along Sumida Riverbanks for 6.4 kms and then it rained. I have to stop biking and return home in most expeditious manner. I was trembling all over. My clothes were soaking wet. Yes Wandie. It was cold this morning. Worse after getting soaking wet at 59F with 5 km/h wind. But don't get me wrong. Silver trekkie and I enjoyed biking back home. There is something about raining and biking that exhilarates the ride even better. If lost and uncertain, consult maps. Very good aid. Ask directions from friendly Japanese Policeman also. Rain stopped at this point on way back home. I took out camera from its water proofed case and posed Silver trekkie under pink cherry blossoms. Thanks for viewing.

Sir...Yes...Sir Rickym
I will ride safe. Follow all rules of bicycle do and don'ts here in tokyo. Stiff fine of 20,000 yen is just too much to pay if caught being pasaway.
I still can't forget your birthday treat of saging to us classics on our way up to mudsprings of Makiling some summers ago. On steepest portion of Makiling climb, you were carrying a piling of saging on your right hand and holding handlebars with your left hand. And we barely made that climb. Lakas po ninyo (you were that strong). That ride was the maiden ride of cheenky and marcs.
Last EB we had was PinoyMTBiker Christmas Party in Makati where together with big daddy and qt_kat, we feasted on horse's meat...ba iyon?
After that you laid low. We wondered what happened? Only to find out you've been overseas for a year and a half all this time.

SADLY i can't find that thread in the GALLERY they made for that ride....i think there are 3 thread made for that ride but the complete one was missing....(the thread that most shots of PinoyMTBiker faces of the bikers was there...from the start to finished..with the shot of EGAY team (Endless) crashing on the bushes...)...hope i can find that thread again... yes sir last meeting we had was the 2005 PinoyMTBiker Xmas party (trully the last with PinoyMTBiker peeps in Manila...)....... ;D ;D ;D. and my last competition was "Ratratan sa Maarat" Some reasons not joining the PinoyMTBiker ride in Manila was... 1. i diverted my full time hobby to motor drag racing but i still do biking during the time im not active with the PinoyMTBiker rides and activities.... 2. also i have to go out of the country for jobs reason...my family getting bigger and i have to find a much better greener pasture!! (and saving for the sweetest bike like your IBIS Mojo ;D ;D ;D, that bike of yours makes my saliva dripping!!!!) i'll join PinoyMTBiker peeps again when i'm back to phil.... ;D ;D ;D thats for sure!!! hope to see you agAin on the trails papi with your delicious IBIS mojo........ ooppppsss the Trekkie will got jealous!!!!! Hello Papi Rocky,
When you see those Cherrry Blossoms, please be reminded of our own Palawan Cherry, it is as beautiful and is in full bloom here also. It is a summer flower here in Palawan, remember?
Did you see our mameng, lapu-lapu and other live fish there in Tsukiji? Also the Puffer Fish they call Fugu, chances are they must have come from Palawan. Don't forget the Flying Fish that we just play around here, it is a delicacy there in the land of the rising sun.
So, after your visit there, remember, Palawan beckons you. Mayad na temprano.

Hi Palawaneagle, I remember how my grandmother used to boast to me of how beautiful Palawan cherry blossoms are. I was a little boy growing up then under her guidance. I learned from her that besides Palawan, cherry blossoms could also be found in Tokyo and in Washington, D.C. That was the first time I heard of both cities. Last spring of April 1, 2007, I was able to view cherry blossoms at Washington D.C. myself. They were likewise as spectacular as our very own in Palawan and cherry blossoms I am currently witnessing in tokyo. Sayang. I was not able to take snapshots of mameng, lapu-lapu, puffer fish, and flying fish while wiggling myself into inner sanctum of tsukiji fish market. Smell of fish and sea reeking while inside the market place is very similar to smell of Palawan's pantalan. I know the particular color and texture of fishes coming from Palawan seas. It is uniquely unmistakably its very own. Pure blooded native Palaweno would recognize fishes coming from his waters when he sees one. I thought I spotted a lapu-lapu or two coming from Palawan. Yes. Palawan always beckons me. When I get older, and mountain biking gets harder to mount, I plan to return to beach front property I inherited from lola. There fronting Palawan surf and turf that time forgot, I will cherish memories of my travels, as the sun sets on me.

Silver trekkie and I are having a blast rolling through the maze that is Tokyo. It is so nice to bike here...grabe. I feel like a heavyweight champ biking in a flyweight's ring. Why? Because the roads here are as smooth as glass. The flow of traffic as disciplined as Marines following orders in boot camp. Everytime Silver trekkie and I are out biking, it becomes instantaneous adventure. Everything is new. Everything different. Everything impressive. Just like a new trail we make butas for the first time, adrenaline pumps double time. I saw pictures of MP3-II ride. The mix of 23 participant riders is universal. It represents various sectors in PinoyMTBiker. Ang galeeeng. Binded and unified by addictive xc trail that is Licao-Licao. The Smiles on everybody's faces say lots how everybody enjoyed the ride. SCUD style of course. Walang iwanan. Nobody gets hurt. Everybody's mechanical breakdown gets fixed by the group. Nobody races. Nobody is stronger. Camaraderie is the rule..than exemption. Last but not least, shoutbox, current events, showbiz, and tsismisan...Dominates.

rainbow63 sir, Silver trekkie and I stayed indoors yesterday (Day 8). Strong storm passed by central Japan yesterday. And there will be another storm that will pass central Tokyo tomorrow (Thursday and Friday). Today, however, Day 9, looks like a clear day. 54 F. 11km/h wind. I will take advantage of this lull between storms and bike out. As to where Silver trekkie will be heading, bahala na si batman? Pictures of TLBF are in. Thanks peeps for sharing. For those of us who failed to attend the event, at least pictures and feedbacks and narrations gave us an idea of what happened. I was so inggit to death for not being there. Here we go again. Silver trekkie following the trails of batman (bahala na?). I wore na nga thick Fox jersey underneath winter cycling jersey plus red wind breaker, and it felt quite chilly pa. Pero...how masarap the coldness. I didn't perspire and never got tired. I felt so energetic and ganado (hyper) while riding. Silver trekkie somehow drifted again towards the Wall of the Imperial Palace. Thanks goodness. And not at the Wall of Maarat Imperial Palace Outer Garden Silver trekkie makulit (following batman) as she is, navigated left and right and left and right without any paricular direction in mind as if possessed by higher spirits, ended up in front of a shrine (15 kms away from Palace). I don't mind naman if Silver trekkie is lost. Maybe she is not? What I am after really is to bum (while my time) without any particular objective also, but to feel 'fully retired' (big time). Equation: Silver trekkie plus full retirement = perfect match. And lookie. Compared to April 4 (5 days ago) when trees above were pictured as covered with cherry blossoms, new leaves have taken over cherry blossoms bloom and are starting to sprout. Aba? Silver trekkie poses at Komagata Bridge way up north of Sumida River by Asakusa. Lakwatsero (drifter) talaga. Teka. Teka. Have to carboload first of Bento to fuel up Silver trekkie. Not pricey naman. Costing 500 yen for hot chow, I realize my fantasy of enjoying pensionado meal down by the river. While the corporate prefers lunch in glitzy restaurants, I prefer to be unhurried and sitted on a wind-strewn bench viewing Sumida River. Silver trekkie cruised 6.5 kms farther alongside Marikina Banks (ah este Tokyo river pala). Salty River breeze cleared my nasal congestion inspite of pleasantly cold and invigorating head winds. I just have to taste freshest sushi at Tsukiji Fish Market again. Total Distance: 35.42 kms

Plankton Dash,
To ride the world and be free. This is exactly what I am experiencing while touring tokyo with Silver trekkie.
This wouldn't be possible if not for our PinoyMTBiker's shared passion for mtbiking.
Ewan lang huh? PinoyMTBiker rides taught me to burst out of my boundaries, and then scale heights of my mental and physical limits. The ride in itself is its ultimate 'high'. Newer trails are trimmings that give so much adventure. No wonder we at PinoyMTBiker are a happy bunch. We share so much joy and camaraderie during our fun rides. And all it takes is a mountain bike for PinoyMTBiker lifestyle to flourish.
Today, Day 8, and tomorrow, Day 9, a storm is passing by central Japan. Your wishes that I take good care of myself and to stay safe dictate I stay indoors for the duration of the storm.
