"The Golden Compass" For anyone with kids, grandkids other relatives or friends who this may concern, I have checked it out at snopes.com and it is true. www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp There will be a new children's movie out in December called "The Golden Compass" starring Nicole Kidman. The movie has been described as "atheism for kids" and is based on the first book of a trilogy entitled "His Dark Materials" that was written by Phillip Pullman. Pullman is a militant atheist and secular humanist who despises C. S. Lewis and the "Chronicles of Narnia". His motivation for writing this trilogy was specifically to counteract Lewis' symbolisms of Christ that are portrayed in the Narnia series. Clearly, Pullman's main objective is to bash Christianity and promote atheism. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "my books are about killing God." He has even stated that he wants to "kill God in the minds of children". It has been said of Pullman that he is "the writer the atheists would be praying for, if atheists prayed." While "The Golden Compass" movie itself may seem mild and innocent, the books are a much different story. In the trilogy, a young streetwise girl becomes enmeshed in an epic struggle to ultimately defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God. Another character, an ex-nun, describes Christianity as "a very powerful and convincing mistake." In the final book, characters representing Adam and Eve eventually kill God, who at times is called YAHWEH. Each book in the trilogy gets progressively worse regarding Pullman's hatred of Jesus Christ. "The Golden Compass" is set to premier on December 7, during the Christmas season, and will probably be heavily advertised. Promoters hope that unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the movie, that they will enjoy the movie, and that the children will want the books for Christmas. Please consider a boycott of the movie and the books. Also, pass this information along to everyone you know. This will help to educate parents, so that they will know the agenda of the movie.

Again, IMO, if your faith is heavily grounded, there is nothing to fear. Just like with The Da Vinci Code, I will definitely watch this. Curious eh! The article above was probably written by a "conservative" individual. Quite subjective if you ask me. Instead, you may want to read this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Pullman

FYI, there was nothing disparaging remarks on Jesus Christ. In fact, the 1st installment makes you think it is anti-God. As you progress, di naman.
I found it to be creative n fresh when I was younger, I still do

I remember one houseguest of my aunt told me (after seeing me with a harry potter book waaaaay before Harry was already a household name) "Oy! Don't read that! Didn't you know that's against Xtianity, ek ek..."
me (in my mind): Ah, f@ck off. Like HumptyDumpty, Jack and Jill, and Mary and her lambs were antichrists too.
_________ i wouldn't be the least surprised if the Golden Compass' promoters are the ones sending out hate mails about the movie. That's one way of ensuring takilya-busting success!

i read the trilogy a couple of years back, didn't think it was anti-Christ or anything. it's true, it questions the idea of a god in charge of everything, and the place where souls go after death isn't the christian idea of heaven. but it's a story, be free to draw your own insights. if it matters enough to you, read them and decide for yourself instead of subscribing to the opinion of another. otherwise, just sit back and enjoy the debate (or do something else, there are many other things to occupy your time, life is so short).

The article above was probably written by a "conservative" individual. Quite subjective if you ask me. Instead, you may want to read this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_PullmanSir brusko is right... if your faith is so tight, worry free... on the other hand, as parents, it's our role to still guide our youngsters minds to believe whats right, we may not be always there to see what their doing but at least pray for the Almighty that no harm may come to them either to pray for them to absorb whats right... sorry for the OT...just want to share this...promise! this may not be that incline to the topic but deeply into cycling... one night (as I got tired of sleeping all day) I decided to do some rounds and chanced to pass a fellow bikers haus who at the same time has a visitor. I sat with them but I refuse to accept the offer of drinking alcohol that night, suddenly a discussion RE: religion kicked in, then this man whom claims that he had been to every religion and for him the Holy Bible is nothing but more likely to be just a komiks (a filipino version of comic books like marvel etc.). he also claims that he had read the bible from cover to cover, I suddenly feel pissed for such arrogance. one of his stories that he mentioned is that the reason why he doesn't believe in the holy book is due to a phrase which says " sapagka't ang Panginoon na ang pangalan ay Mapanibughuin; ay mapanibughuin ngang Dios" ...being able to attend on some Bible based gathering, I feel so dismayed for him, knowing his stature. I just ask him if he really understand what he claimed he had readen from end-to-end, when he said "oo, nabasa ko na buong Bibliya" I only replied, sige po paki basa po ulit pero try nyo magdasal before reading it and try to have a deeper understanding po. But still this man speak things that may send shivers down to another man's spine, he even tried to convince me to read a book which he claims to be a book of latin origin on which I refused. like what have sir brusko said... like a tree which is very much rooted to the ground, no strong wind can blow him down. each and every moment I would visit any trail and see the wonders, on every evening stroll that I would do and see the stars...either on how a human produce another human inside her system...or just by simply riding my Trekky...aren't this things still not enough for us to believe and not to be off swept even???
