OK ye olde PMTBikers, if you were around then, what was your favorite weekly TV series in the 60s or 70s? Yes, those good old shows before the advent of inane telenovelas, showbiz gossip shows and 3-hour long noontime shows!
Here's my list:
1) COMBAT! - Who can forget Vic Morrow and his Thompson SMG? Or Rick Jason and his M1 Carbine and Kirby with his BAR? Even today, its intro tune/track is recognizable to generations of Filipinos.
2) BATMAN- Yup, the one with Adam West and Burt Ward. For kids back then, it was as close as reading them in the comics. Its intro tune/track was voted in the US as one of the most recognizable from the 60s. I think its still being rerun in a local channel here.
3) THE TWILIGHT ZONE- Rod Serling and his eerie, macabre episodes had viewers glued to the tube. The fact that they were in grainy black & white gave its episodes that mysterious, creepy feel. No gory special effects, just the twists and turns of the plot was enough to deliver the scare.
4) JOHNNY QUEST- Here's adventure animation at its best! I think there was recent remake of the series but it never came close to the appeal of the original.
5) GILLIGAN'S ISLAND- As kids we just laughed at Gilligan and his friends' weekly attempts to get off the island they were marooned in. Now generations of fans ask how it was possible for weekly guests to wander into the island and get off before each episode ended, ha-ha.
6) HAWAII 5-O- Jack Lord and James McArthur were probably one of the most successful crime busting tandems of all time. Its theme tune is still played today.
