300 is "must-see" movie for 2007. everything seems to be right....story line, action, bed scene, graphic movie.this is movie-making history very like when star wars was made and shown by george lucas. it revolutionized the film-making industry. i believe 300 will revolutionize film-making as well. the character of king leonidas was given justice by the actor who played it.....angas na angas ang dating. xerxes is the biggest beki i ever saw, towering at 7 feet yata PMTBerks.................................. prepare to ride

MountG, Promenade in Greenhills may be closer to you. Their cinema 5 wasn't too shabby. Be sure to visit the website. The short documentaries there on the making of the movie are great. The training regimen of those buff guys wasn't a joke. They got their bodies in that shape the hard way! thanks for the advice brad. will do that. i hope its still showing until the weekend. cant be absent for work unfortunately. it'll be like the first time for me to watch a movie in like 3 or 4 years. d@mn those pirated DVD's, hehehe. ;D

learning from this movie how the spartans train their soldiers (from the time they reach the age of 7) makes me think that perhaps the chinese picked-up this training regimen. some people may not know it, but the chinese trains their athletes at a very young age. kids from different parts of the country are selected by sports authorities to whatever sports discipline they would possibly excel based on body built, bone structure, etc. and are taken from their parents and sent to the training sites. they practically become a property of the government during their training and up to their participation in international competitions. these kids would more often than not bring home the olympic gold for china. anyone heard of ma's army? the bunch of track and field athletes who shocked the world when they "almost" collected all the gold medals in the track event.
spartan is used as an adjective to describe a way of discipline or lifestyle when one follows and lives a very basic and simple way of life.

i believe more in the power of human spirit...although training and all is part of it, in the end its one man's determination that will spell the outcome of his feat..reminds me of that movie gattaca btw.
all the odds were against him...logic should have told king leonidas to just accept the terms of the persian ruler...save the lives of his soldiers, go home to his wife and become the leader of all greeks and prolly live long enough to see his grandchildren..but nope, he chose to fight...now thats what sets him apart...the quality of a man that wouldnt buckle down under enormous pressure...some people may call it stupidity...and yes, we dont train people to become stupid.

I watched the movie last sunday with my family, its really so great movie, my daughter Anne made her own reaction to show her appreciation. Here's what she said: i watched the movie last sunday. it's so great. amazing, awesome, magnificent, marvelous. what else can i possibly say? i'm not exactly a fan of graphic novels except for the sandman but this is definitely one hell of an adaptation. watching the movie is like flipping the pages of a comic book. okay. so maybe i don't have the right to compare it to a comic book, but i'm entitled to my own opinion right? and my opinion is that frank miller ought to be very proud of this movie; the cinematography, the storyline, everything. oh, and the cast is amazing too. they portrayed their roles exceptionally well. i wanna watch it again. i never really appreciated the story of the 300 spartans until now. i guess it does take great art to make people care.

the 300 spartans of king leonidas lost that battle at thermopylae, but it inspired the whole greek nation and exposed the vulnerabilty of the mighty persian army of xerxes. the greeks, spearheaded by the spartans, would later won it's next battle, with xerxes abandoning his troops, the greeks will win its war against the persians and prevent them with their dreams of conquering europe.

I said it before. I'll say it again.... read "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield.
After this, you'll really be a fan of Spartans. Its also a fairer and more historically accurate depiction of both Spartans and Persians.
If you want to go on... read the Alexander trilogy by Valerio Massimo Manfredi, I went through dozens of AA batteries for my reading night light for these books. I couldnt put them down.
Then read "Farewell Great King" by Jill Paton Walsh to see how the greeks (from the Athenian point of view) eventually won it all after Thermopylae in the Battle of Salamis and Plataea.
