I have one album of Eric Johnson - Venus Isle. Galeng, creamy guitar coupled with complex keyboard work. Not sure if it would be a good MTB background music though...

I also prefer EJ over Yngwie. Malmsteen's too flashy for my taste but I still like 'em, I used to listen to his album Magnum Opus every once in a while.

malmsteen sucked at g3 (with vai and satriani). if you've watched the video, you'll know why. also, his licks sound redundant. although i like mamlsteen for his classical and lightning fast licks, i just dont like to hear them on every song. vai and satriani is the best. i love satriani of the 2. his focus on musicality and not on technicality will always make him a number for me. but there is just one song i love so much and will never ever leave my ears. its vinnie moore's song entitled cinema.

anybody listens to Buckethead here? he plays some unusual, technical and esoteric sounding sh*t
how about the new generation of neoclassical shredders like Rusty Cooley, Francesco Fareri (?), Joe Stump, Micheal Romeo (of Symphony X), Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom) etc. Their speed and sweep picking techniques are so unreal and will make Yngwie cry hehe. But that's about it. most of the time they sound nothing more than a wankfest
me i still prefer the over all musicianship of the old masters like Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Becker heck maybe even Batio or Impellitteri (yikes!)

If you say Yngwie sucked at their concert... I guess sir your really good on your guitar... I'm not a big fan of Malmsteen (unlike Joe "Such Boogie" Satriani) can you recall at what particular part did yngwoe sucked (sucked= by the way how do you use this term...does he commit errors or what???)

try this!!!!!! Steve Vai .......a student of Joe satriani... Joe Satriani........also a mentor to kirk hammet ( his disapponited because Kirk doesn't finish all of Satriani's lesson bcoz he is only interested ion one mode...ROCK and ROLL) Eric Jhonson.....the cleanest guitar player due to his wide use of noise filters... John Petrucci (solo) not...lead guitars of dream theater man.... Gary Hoey Greg Howe Vinnie Moore Tony McAlpine Frank Gambale Chris Impelliteri Paul Gilbert....the PASAWAY Gutiatrist of MR. BIG Ritchi Koltzen (or Kotzen) replacement of C.C. deVille on POISON and many others ... and on bass you've got Billy Sheehan...serious bass player of MR. BIG Jaco Pastorious...dead man with cool bass licks and teacchings Stu Hamm...joe satriani's sessionist Matt Bissonett and many others!!!!! if your interested i've got hard to find copies of them!!!!!

Though some of my faves are listed above (like J Sat, E Clapton), there's this guitarist that I had the pleasure of coming across just recently: Tommy Emmanuel. Ranges from light rock to jazz, purely instrumental. Check out: www.tommyemmanuel.com/
