I'm thinking of building a new computer with the following specs:
CPU: Athlon64 X2 5000 Dual core P6350 Mobo: MSI K9NNEO-F nForce 550/pcie/S/L P3750 HDD: 250Gb Seagate Baracuda SATA P3400 RAM: Kingston 1GB 800 ddr2 P2750 Video: Inno3D 7600GT 256ddr3 P4800 PSU: HEC 550W P3600 Total Bill: P24,650.
I already have an old generic casing, a DVDwriter and an LCD monitor, so no need to shop for these 3.
Question: Is there room for improvement for the above list, not exceeding P30,000 budget? I intend to use this unit for extensive Photoshop usage … and occasional games for the kids… uhmm… that includes me.
Is my video card good enough and ready for some nice graphic-intensive games? What are some nice titles other than scrabble and chess ;D
Thanks for the suggestions!

try to have a intel base mobo or much better intel mobo and of course intel cpu dual core much more fun than athlon base.,,..and an MSI??? y?? from my experience MSI always bring me down in gaming huhu,so i always use intel boards highly recommended!! but higher price..other alternetive is intel base mobo,
inno3d's are good enough for gaming and high graphics projects like video's,pic editing etc.. nice choice u got there,it won't let u down tested @ nfs most wanted, carbon etc...even in high graphics mode
memory .. nice choice kingston but make it 2x 1gig memory same model and speed,so u make most out of ur board dual memory (i forgot what u call that hehe but its in the board manual hehe)
HDD is good choice to but of course buy the better and high speed I/O speed try to read some reviews,,u should be more carefull in buying ur HDD all ur important files are there and its runs most of the time so most of the stress in u pc is in ur HDD and cpu, seagate baracudda is a good choice try to find the best model
power supply.. nice choice but be sure its original and its really a 550watts hehe some other brands says that its a 550watts or higher but only a 350watts or something lower in the said specs
thats it hehe hope it help, but jz ignore it if u didn't find it helpful hehe happy hunting brad!!

Thanks for the suggestions.
Will get 2 GB ram.
When you say get a new casing, what for? Should I go for an aluminum casing or what? for cooling purpose? I really don't need a good-looking case since it is placed underneath the table where I can't even appreciate myself.
If I go for Intel instead of AMD, what CPU mobo do you suggest? Any particular model?
Btw, I already got 2 IDE harddisks. My question is: can I connect 2 IDE harddisks and 2 SATA harddisks at the same time?
There's also a question regarding DIRECT-X 10 capable video cards coming up this Christmas? Should I go ahead with the Inno3D 7600GT purchase or go for Inno3D 8600GT 256ddr3 for P5350? or do I get a 2nd hand 6600 from TipidPC and wait it out till Christmas?
And the UPS is really a good suggestion. Imagine you being the only one who's still connected in times of power interruptus!

When you say get a new casing, what for? Should I go for an aluminum casing or what? for cooling purpose? I really don't need a good-looking case since it is placed underneath the table where I can't even appreciate myself. No need to change your casing for now. and you really won't see significant change in temperature when using an aluminum case. just make sure you have good air circulation inside the case. If I go for Intel instead of AMD, what CPU mobo do you suggest? Any particular model? hmmm... at least a core 2 duo processor paired with an intel chipset (p965, p975, p35, g33, just avoid g/p31 intel chip) based mobo. asus, intel brand, dfi, abit, gigabyte. I'm using asus p5w-dh deluxe for my c2d. Btw, I already got 2 IDE harddisks. My question is: can I connect 2 IDE harddisks and 2 SATA harddisks at the same time? yes. but most new motherboards only have 1 IDE port like your choice of board, so it'll only support 2 IDE devices. but then all new motherboards have lots of SATA ports. you can connect 2 IDE hdd and 2 SATA hdd at the same time without any problems. DX10 video cards are around since nov-dec last year. Not so many programs really requires DX10 at the moment. there's only a couple of games support them. but if you can get them now, why not.hehe

I'm also using this baby to protect my rig from sudden voltage drop or surge... my APC is coming to it's 4th yr but still it's working fine... just use it with-in it's limits and surely it will surpass the 2year replace thingy note...

Can anybody give links to those PC guru sites where they compare different components?
I'm trying to check which yields better performance? Athlon64 X2 5000 Dual core P6350 - or - Intel E4400 2Ghz C2D P5900
ATI Radeon X1750 512MB/128bit P5750 - or - Inno3D 8600GT 256MB ddr3/128bit P5350
using what particular mobo and ram?
Any geeks in the house?

I would suggest you to get 2 stick of 1GB GeiL / Team / G-Skill brand for worry free performance and it would be best to run then in Dual Channel...and run them in a very tight timings...sweet As for Graphics Card... Leadtek would be a good choice of brand... I've been using 6600GT AGP for the past 4yrs until now and still serves me well... esp playing "Splinter Cell". I've read 50/50 pos/neg review about Inno3D. PSU...get HEC Winpower 550AB... it will surely give you true 550W power... Good luck to your hunt sir!

I got an overclocked core 2 duo E6600 on Intel D975BX "bad axe" motherboard with 2 GB Corsair Dominator CAS4 DDR-800 memory and nvidia 7950GT video card (still praying for 8800GTX price to drop hehe). Recently just assembled a Core 2 Quad Q6600 on Asus Blitz Formula motherboard also with 2 GB Corsair DHX memory for a friend too. I guess that means I am geeky hehehe.
I say go for Intel C2D. Go for at least one of the newer 1.333GHz FSB C2D cpus like E6550. Why? Because P35 chipset motherboards are a lot better than 965P or 975P in terms of memory performance but will not be used to full potential by older cpus. I would recommend at least an Asus P5K series motherboard. The cheapest is P5K-SE I think but go for P5K. If it were me, I'd get Asus Blitz Formula or Blitz Extreme hehehe.
For memory, the Kingston Value RAM DDR-800 is nicely priced but I'd rather go with Corsair Value RAM or Corsair XMS2 DHX or Dominator series.
As for video card, 7600GT should provide sufficient power for most games and the newer versions 8600GT and 8600GTS do not provide sufficient performance improvement for the difference in price. If you want something better - it could only be 8800GTS or 8800GTX both of which cost like a major mtb component upgrade or even a whole high end mtb.
For hard drive - go for the 320GB SATA w/ 16 MB cache.
As for power ... you don't really need fancy 500+W PSUs unless you have two power hungry video card in SLI or Crossfire mode. Most of the 500W ATX12 psus that come with most cases nowadays are usually sufficient. The HEC 550 is a nice psu but that extra 3K can be spent elsewhere like a better motherboard or speakers. Replace the generic psu with a good one when it conks out (it is unlikely to damage any component when it dies anyway).

you wont be needing 2gb of ram if you're just into photo editing... it doesn't render (move) that much... still photo editing requires good video card and 256mb of your specs will do.......
and for the games... well every month there's a new game that requires very very big space in HDD and eats up your RAM by just loading it to your screen... so if your a gamer freak then 2GB RAM will do........ but i would recommend Intel for gaming..... unless you have 24X7 air conditioning in your place coz AMD is really known for over heating....... for mobo get either ASUS, MSI, Intel or anything as long as it's intel chipset...... and oh, avoid Vista as for now...... compatibility issues coz it is still lemon OS.
so there....... hth

gadgets; If you go with these mtb'ers suggestion, you'll surely go past 30k.haha
Depending on your set-up and usage, the amd x2 5000+ will smoke the intel e4400 or vice versa. but the higher intel, say e6400 paired with a decent mobo will surely eat out an x2 5000+.
add a little more (say, 6500 or so) and you can get an ati x1950pro with way better graphics power than the choices above.
as per goodboybrionne, yes avoid ms vista for now.

Approximate prices: Intel Core 2 Duo E6550: Php8300 Asus P5K P35 mobo: Php8000 2GB Corsair XMS2 CAS5: Php6000 2GB Corsair XMS2 CAS4: Php7500 2GB Corsair XMS2 DHX: Php9000 Seagate 320GB SATA 3G/S: Php4300 Palit or Sparkle or Inno3d 7600GT: Php4500 Actually it only overshoots the 30k budget by a little bit even with CAS 4 XMS2 memory. Xero is correct btw - Radeon 1950Pro and 1950XT are better than 7600GT or 8600GT and are also good choices but they are around ~7500+ and ~10,000+ respectively. These are not DirectX10 video cards so they are not as future-proof as say 8800GTS or 2900XT. Of course since Vista did not turn out to be as good as expected; and vista drivers remain much to be desired; there is no need to rush to buy DirectX10 cards. Besides, 9000 series Nvidias are coming at the end of the year so ... hopefully 8800GTS and GTX will soon be affordable!

gadgets88, Sorry all my discarded PC stuff goes to my younger brother who is also a PC gaming enthusiast ... the difference is he is super-kuripot unlike his free-spending Ahia so he smartly wait till I upgrade hehehe. He has my old Athlon64 and 6600GT ... fattire, I use the same handle in tipidpc, pinoydvd, wiredstate, PEx, etc. Kevin, Haha it's only a torrent box when I am not using it - so torrent box for 20/7 is more accurate hehehe, about 3/7 just browsing internet (especially shopping for bike parts here at PinoyMTBiker and moderating wiredstate.com) and only about 1/7 for playing games. I now enjoy biking more than playing PC games but ... still cannot tolerate slow PCs and I am not happy until I am playing games at maximum detail settings and at 1280x960@85Hz or higher resolutions hehehe. This PC has been running 24/7 for nearly a year - and will be a year next month!
