Well actually you're right it uses the VoIP techology. From an IP Phone to hardwired landline or same VoIP phone.
It became popular few years back, since this was the method used by companies selling prepaid cards abroad. It way cheaper than normal long distance call.
Most of the Call Centers now apply this technology on their internal phone facility.
Roxio, how do you charge you skype credits? I'm kinda reluctant to use it because of the negative feedbacks on acquiring the Skype via creditcard.

i don't get credits i just invite my contact to go on line on skype and then we talk, the difference about skype with other messengers is that you are like talking in the phone once booth party is on-line, unlike the others when you choose the option of talking it's like talking in a short wave radio. The best thing about it is that it is free... just have to download the program.
Skype via credit card?!? -- the time you will be paying is when you use your computer and call a landline...
BTW: this is not a business of mine (bikester kulit nun) just want to share it bec. now am talking with my suppliers and relative abroad using the system.

yahoo's pretty nifty on PC to PC calls. Based on my experience Skype is clearer ( internet to internet). Even if its across three continents. Have no experience using internet to landline. But I don't know if it is as clear if one party is using dial-up.

You can also use Skype to call toll-free numbers, including bike manufacturer's 1-800/877 numbers.
My gf runs a small callcenter, and she uses Skype to call her boss. She also has a VOIP phone for their customers that want to call her from a landline.

no experience w/ skype. I do have exp. w/ gizmo. try looking for gizmo project. It's even got 25 cents free (good for 25 minutes to any U.S. phone). The quality is great.
