have you tried cleaning your drive (using an optical drive cleaner)? you may also try to reseat your drive's cable inside your case (if you are not sure on how its done please have somebody competent enough to open your pc)
just my ideas .... mga experts please correct me if i'm wrong

that would be the best thing to do, bring it back to the vendor, though what happened might void the warranty. i suspect the drive head was misaligned because of that. just my opinion

sir tolit, can i suggest....
shut down the PC then remove the connections of the IDE drive of the CD/optical drive/DVD rom, then use another IDE connection to connect to the CD/DVD rom (kung anuman ang available pwera lang sa IDE na galing sa hard disk), but wait for like 5 mins. to connect again, then open the PC, if it's a DVD rom, go to the net and the website of your DVDrom's manufacturer, then download the latest driver (or the latest firmware, if there is) then test the drive if it works. kasi baka firmware lang and i think it will solve it hopefully.

In solving problems, we use the elimination process. The DVD works fine. The VCD-CD doesn't. Since both lens are separate, we now know which direction to go. The problem can be due to something that affected the lens. It could be dirt, adhesive, pentel ink, or physical trauma. I do not recommend drives (floppies or Disk drives) be repaired. The best solution is replacement with a new one. It is unfortunate that doing business in the Phils is different from other countries. Your vendor will probably tell you something like... "We will send it back to the supplier. Maybe for a few months. You may have to pay restocking fee of P500. may we suggest you to buy a new computer as well?" A few years ago I asked a friend to buy me a 110 volt-surge protector ($100) for my 110 volt TV set. Guess what? I forgot and plugged it into the 220 volt outlet! Shaboom! I sent the unit a month later, and it was replaced outright. No questions asked. If I were living in the USA and my TV was blasted in the process, the vendor would replace the surge protector and the TV! That's what I call integrity! ethics! Sarap diba?
