hmmmm well it's just an option to have a fast connection but you have to pay monthly bills which may interfere your UPGRADE VIRUS funds....
but i'd still vote for DSL just be safe in downloading stuff to avoid PC problem. may kilala din ako ganyan, mod here but using dial up but its not bigdeal naman according to him/her... ;D ;D ;D

At work I have a DSL which is free but at home, I just use a dial up.... a hundred peso card(20hrs) would last me more than 2 weeks. So I see no point in having a DSL connection at home and paying thousands of pesos kahit na unlimited. I think its a matter of preference and purpose.

dsl... no need to tie up the phone line, fast... etc.
IMHO, get one if you need the bandwidth (for business, downloading, gaming... etc.)
get a provider that has an exchange nearest you for a faster connection (we live 2 blocks away from a globe LEC so i chose them over PLDT)
you can also try the wireless internet offered by meridian (but it sucks during rain). be sure that you're inside the 5km radius of the access point.

kung pabrowse browse only at night or at certains times of the day lang, i'd opt for dial up na lang. sayang e.

In the Philippines internet connection for home use, defends on ones need and financial situation. If one has a business being run at home, or if no business but got plenty of moolah to spare then DSL is recommended. Though there is some frustration on using dial up, you'll get by but you need to know when is the best time to use it and you'll also need lot of patience.

There are fast dial-up connection with unlimited hours that will cost you from P400 - P550 monthly. Actually it's only 500 the P50 will charge you for xlr8 software which doubles the 56k speed (depending on your location and if you have 2 phonelines). But if you are a computer geek who downloads lots of stuff and plays on the net, then you need a DSL line. Pero kung pang chat & email lang, dial-up na lang. If you can't afford DSL monthly cost, IMHO.

Ganito na lang, propose a Telecommute Program at work and have them connect you to the office via DSL connection hehe
Just think, less time and energy wasted on commute more time and energy to bike everyday no need to dress-up for work (attend that meeting online in your sando and shorts! hehe)

Many people are wondering whether they should switch to DSL or keep their dial-up service. You have three choices Cable, Phone Company, or other DSL suppliers. In general all three will give you faster access to the internet and quicker downloads. Webpages will load faster and you will always be connected to the internet so you won't be waiting to dial-up. Most dial-up speeds are 56K or less and with a DSL line download speeds are from 256K to 6M depending upon the service plan you choose. With DSL service you can surf the internet and still receive phone calls while online. No need for a second phone line too. Also if you have DSL service through your local cable company you can watch TV and still surf the internet. With DSL service your connection won't be dropped as with dial-up services. No matter what DSL company you choose make sure your computer has a firewall and configure your computer to disconnect from the internet when you're not surfing. The main difference between dial-up and DSL service is, it's much faster than dial-up. But is it worth the cost? Not unless you want faster page loads and downloads. Otherwise dial-up service is fine. Before I used to lose my temper since I'm using dial-up. But since last year, I could surf anywhere else with faster speed. Dial-up is a thing of the past. But like others have reiterated here if budget restricts you then suit up for what you can afford... It's all about living beneath your means. Cheers!

Di ba PLDT WeRoam is a sort of hybrid between Wi-Fi and Cellular technology? It's not as fast as hotspots I think but you can be connected anywhere Wi-Fi is faster, cheaper ( at the moment some are free pa ), there will come a time that the whole island will be a hot spot.

Smarf WIFI is ok. At an initial price of 788... the speed is 128kbps... Ang alam ko they will offer an upgrade to 256 kbps at a price of 988...
So far it's ok with me. Ok din ang customer support.
