Curious to see what everyone keeps in their bags during rides. I guess it would also differ depending on the length of the ride.
It's interesting to see the difference between packing for an SS ride and a geared ride....
I'll start:
1.) Chain Tool 2.) Extra links 3.) 4mm allen wrench 4.) 5mm allen wrench w/ 8mm adaptor for cranks and rear Fun Bolts 5.) Extra Tube 6.) Mini tire pump 7.) Water (Never more than 1.5L) 8.) Cash 9.) I.D. 10.) Cell phone

i don't always use a pack but i almost always have: 1. 1-2 spare tubes + levers* 2. pump* 3. patch kit (+spare chain links)* 4. crank brothers multi-17 tool (i leave this sometimes and hope someone else has a tool ) 5. 1-2 water bottles (even if i use a hydration pack)* 6. money, cellphone, house keys* if it look like it might rain i'll bring a lightweight, packable jacket as well * = always for a short ride, or if you know there are a lot of stores to resupply you can really get away with a couple of bottles and your jersey's pockets

In my saddle bag:
1. Extra inner tube 2. Multi tool (w/ hex wrenches & screwdrivers) 3. Extra links. It's atually a ~4" chain; excess from the chain I'm using. Got lazy taking it apart. 4. Chain breaker 5. 2 pcs tire levers 6. Folding knife 7. Tire patch kit which is useless already because the adhesive already dried out. The kit also contains P20 and a presta valve adapter. 8. Small rag 9. Zip ties (3 pcs), which is currently securing the saddle bag because it gets loose often.
I use a hydration pack for long rides, which is where I put my tire pump. I already lost two tire pumps already because it wasn't secured properly (frame mounted before). Pack also contains a Powerbar and/or Gu gel. For short rides, I put the tire pump in my pocket (jersey or shorts) and a water bottle (or two).

1. 1 to 4 spare tubes, depending on the expected terrain and length of ride. * 2. spare dropout 3. CB Multi 19 tool * 4. folding pliers and knife tool 5. Pump* 6. Spare chain links* 7. Tire levers with patch kit* 8. some zip ties* 9. small bottle of lube 10. some electric tape 11. first aid kit (antiseptic, band aids, some gauze and tape, alaxan) 12. small pack of baby wipes 13. hydration pack (1.5 L), plus bottles* depending on the ride 14. a pack or two of GU or Boy Bawang or some bananas or suman or whatever packable food is available. 15. wallet* 16. cellphone* 17. ziplock plastic bag for valuables when it rains.* 18. mace or pepper spray* *- always Most of the parts and tools are stored in my huge Deuter saddle/seat bag. Food stuff and others are in my hydration pack. Yes, I've had rides where I needed 4 spare tubes and a spare dropout. No, I have not had to use my pepper spray (knock on wood) Things I'd like to bring also next time, if I still had space in my pack: 1. Spare tire (a light folding 2.0 knobby) - needed it due to a damaged tire ... twice. 2. Good Digital SLR camera - a phone camera just doesnt do our trails justice.
