It's winter, I'm bored and I'm riding the SS exclusively these days (thinking that climbing with bar ends again would be cool)... I have an old bike with old Control Tech shorties... I found a great deal on carbon bars and a Truvativ stem online and decided to try bar ends again... Screw being out of fashion, I'm going back to the NORBA days... hehe Test ride later today. Enjoy the pics: Truvativ Team stem (110mm, oversize), $20 Q2 carbon handelbar (660mm, oversize with aluminum tips for bar ends). Q2 is KHS' house brand. $20 Old Control Tech bar ends (from my racing days) on a Trek Composite frame with Hyperlite bars cut to 21". Totally old school! Cutting it down to a super-shorty Weight without and with bar tape On the bike (Inbred)

1991 or 1992 I think. The cool story about that bike was that it was a warranty for a Fisher Supercaliber that I broke my first couple of years of racing. Trek was nice enough to replace the frame even though the Fisher Supercal frame was a pre-Trek buyout frame...

what tape did you put on the bar tapes? are those electrical tapes? sorry for my ignorance. i've never used bar tapes before but you seem confident about using them. i've seen one of your posts and you put bar tapes on an aggressive rig. wouldn't these tapes slip when its raining and it gets wet? TIA.

I've still got my Control Tech 'stumpy" bar ends, Control tech seatpost, XTR seatpost...and let's see how old school you are...remember ZOOM? And Onza? Cool brad, those NORBA days were awesome, John Tomac racing XC and then doing downhill on the same day. Julie Furtado, Rishi Grewal, Tomas Frischnect( is that how you spell it?) and of course Ned Overend who by the way is still kicking @$$. Ride on!

TIA. Just regular road bar tape. I wrap them so that they actually get tighter when you grip them. I haven't had one unravel yet and they even go on the big bikes... I typically tuck them into the ends of the bars and plug them but since I'm using bar ends on this bike, I had to use electrical tape to tie them down... They've seen rock, snow, rain (yes, even rain the Philippines..hehe), humidity desert, 115 degree heat, 5 degree cold with no problems whatsoever... Plus they come in great colors! Even pink.

Thanks Bub... A customer/friend of mine (I do his prep work on his race bikes), kindly donated a pair of carbon bar ends so the Control Stix were donated to SJ's Inbred. She really digs the bar ends now... It really helps when climbing off the saddle on her SS... Believe it or not, the Control Stix with bar tape is actually lighter than the Sette carbon barends by 10 grams or so...
