if your bike has horizontal drops, it makes it easier to put the wheel back in the same position for proper chain tension every time you take the wheel off. It also makes a great bottle opener...

thanks for the quick answer flipnidaho, i believe i have a horizontal drop out. say in the absence of the tugnut, is there a risk for my chain to loosen while under stress?? tia.. BryO.

Yes, if you are using a quick release, it may not provide enough grip to keep the wheel in the proper position (it might get pulled forward in the dropouts). a bolt on axle would be more secure.

Yes, there is a possibility that the rear will move forward without it.

i haven't seen one locally, BryO. if it's not available at sabak, try calling ross. another option is using bmx branded chain tensioners. what's your bolt on axle? the only 135mm bolt on hub i know of (locally available) is from da bomb. i just saw your rig at the bike gallery, nice!

Try contacting Ykk bikes to see if they have it in stock. You can order it from them if they don't have (If you don't mind waiting for at least a month). If you don't want to wait, your best bet would be hongkong.
It's a good thing that a tugnut was included with my frame. It really made installing the rear wheel easy peezy.

glad to help elsdee. mind telling us how much you got it? the tugnut costs US$ 23 at jensonusa. elsdee is a riding buddy of mine and was with him when he purchased this "odyssey tensioner for BMX". i think he got it for P175.00 or P275.00. definitely less than 300 bucks. it has allen bolt and it comes in black. cheap but looks awesome. elsdee, i think you should post picture of the odyssey here.

thanks gabe!
gbb, 2 chain tensioners? one for each side.. or convert it to threaded axle, which i plan to do too. i can't overtighten my qr because i experience binding. not sure if this will help though.

i just have to customize a horizontal dropout tensioner......... i've seen a lot with a very simple setup but the same function (tensioner)..... tugnut is just for bling and bottle opener features doesn't have purpose for me since i dont drink bottled softdrinks that much softdrink.
for the 135mm axle, i'll just have to buy axle rodz....... i hope i can still get one.... just for the rear hub since i have thru axle in front

GBB - does your rear axle slip forward in the dropouts? Maybe you can put a washer or a lil nut to prevent it from sliding forward - something that's big enough to fill up the space in the drop out slot, between axle and frame?
Hard to explain without seeing your ride. Post pics?
