I rode sta rosa (reverse upak) today with Manito, Polly, and a friend. It was so hard that I wanted to give my bike a karate chop. ;D Are you free this saturday? Let's do Munti!

hmmm.. three surlys at the munti trails! hehehe!
just a warning though, if it rains the night before, expect to get really dirty. i was there last saturday afternoon and my bike was drifting around some portions of the single tracks. let's try to set the date and time around thursday na lang if ever.
PA, did you experience chain derrailment during the uphills? your chain looks a little loose kasi. that's my problem right now, it might be due to my chain line though so i'm experimenting on spacing and chain ring placement.

Uber nice ungoy there , PA! what the overall weight ? wow you went flatbar ! that would be tough to use as leverage wont it? I chose to use mid rise + barends (heheheh) looks awkward but it did the trick on those nasty uphill torques. Now Im using a wide mir-rise with not barends .... Let s ride ! We can do Munti race track coz it has all the technical stuff in bitesize portions

Ayt! let's plan it on Thursday. With regard to chain derailment, thankfully i didn't experience any yesterday. It happened when we installed the 21T that came from the XT cassette. The cog teeth were pretty short and the chain kept slipping out even on maximum tension. Dandan almost broke his family jewels while testing it around all terra. I had no choice but the buy the 18T cog with the longer tooth.

Used a bathroom scale and it's 23 pounds (plus/minus).I chose the flat bar due to the color. ;D ;D ;D Fashion before comfort hahaha. So far the flat bar feels ok naman while standing up on climbs. The long stem and the bar helps bring comfort. Pero im still going to try a riser bar to know the difference in performance. I'm going to write Santa din and ask for a Titec H-bar:D Let's ride on saturday. The SS clinic is great idea!

SS clinic? Let's just all ride, para we can all learn on the fly. 24H track on Saturday sounds alright, though I've never ridden the trails there... What sorta questions you guys have? Maybe we can start a separate thread and have a nice discussion. I'm sure the other SSers would like to share their ideas

I suggest the Munti 24Hr race track as a venue but its your call as to which trails provide the most amount of learning sections This is a must-see for us SS noobs and those planning to "convert" or "build an SS" TIA truly

everyone's pushing for saturday! ..excited na tuloy ako..
thanks for the tips PA. If i can't fix it on my own, i'll bring it to a bikeshop na lang so that they could help me. i was tinkering all afternoon yesterday and my chain line isn't 'perfect'. it might have to do with the spacers (i'm using da bomb) and my acera hubs. i'll ask cherrybomber for some pvc so that i could test out different spacer widths.

i left 5 feet of pipe with boyet of power bikes. manitoo had the same problem with the chainline. baboinsky feeling ko chainlie rin yan. theres still a change to go 21. if your feeling really anal about it. lift your bike up vertically(front wheel reaching for the sky!). and use a plumb line to find the EXACT chain line.

chainline yan, nearly fell off the bike twice when it de-railed. i gave up on the da bomb spacer and got a surly spacer kit, took a while but after trial and error we finally got it (thanks to tomas and unio of grantrail). saturday at munti sounds good. keep me posted

The break in ride at santa rosa nice looking rig talaga. noticed that the chain tension is a bit loose, though. won't a tensioner be the easiest solution so you can still use QR's?

I noticed that there is a tight and loose spot depending on the position of the crank arms. I'm already using a tugnut and qr hubs. Anyway, will have the chain line/tension checked by the SS gods when we ride.
