Is it the same with downhill bikes? the crank set? Truvativ husslefelt something?
how bout the hubs and sprocket?
does it require a special kind of hub?
Does the bicycle requires a tensioner?

maxi,
pag shimano ang cranks, hubs, chain, etc. mo. just buy a chain tensioner and thingamajig for the sprocket/cassette. ask mcV, lam nya yan.
pero pag truvativ yan, tapon mo na at bili ka ng shimano o RF! :harhar: :harhar: :harhar:

maximus, tama si woofy sa mga link, I was going to recommend the same. I'll try to answer some ... First of pala, na-realize ko that like geared mtbikes people use singles for many different purposes ....crosscountry,urban assault, commuting, slalom etc. I guess the type equipment you will choose depends on how you plan to ride. You can use almost any crank you like...as long as you can install a single chainring. Don't listen to staind...Truvativ makes a ss specific crankset..(teka ikaw pala nagsabi sa akin nyan) ;D There are ss specific hubs.(hard to come by here and pricey). In some cases you can convert a bmx hub to fit a mtb. In both of the above, you use a screw-in type bmx sprocket. But, if you already have a wheelset that takes an 8/9 speed cassette..you can get a 9 to 1 converter, which is just actually aluminum spacers and a single (usually 18t) cog. Kings, cycle art, paulinas have these. Mura lang. This is my favorite part! If you have a single speed specific frame (my dream ),with rearward facing dropouts ala BMX, you won't need a tensioner. If you are doing a conversion using your geared bike with vertical dropouts , you will need some form of chain tensioning device. There are so many kinds available..(check the link) The kind I'm using is a spring loaded arm-type with a roller or pulley at the end(Surly in the link). Kita mo na yon diba? Hope this helps. Give it a try dude! All the conversion stuff will cost you only about P1100 . You can always convert back if you're not happy....but i dont think you will hehehe ;D

pero i better check again sa iyo mc varki hehehe and do a little more research.
kung yung pang downhill crank kasi baka medyo over, i mean mahal kasi ang downhill parts hehehe
kung walang walang mag set up ako katulad kay woofers hehehe nainspired ako sa ginawa nya kay debbie gibson.
so far ang reseach part na natitipuhan ko
suntour fork or my old Judy TT hardtail kona frame rigida wheelset nokian ultratour

Maximus, From my personal experience.....single speeding ROCKS! ;D ;D I don't know why but I've grown to appreciate riding more because of it. Specially when it was set up as a ridgid..PURE yung feeling.Hehehe..most of the people who have tried my ss have had a positive response.. ok sya sa road and trail....I dont have a speedo attached but the magazines say that your top speed is limited to about 15 mph...which is what, about 23-24kph. one thing you will have to accept is eventually you will have to push your ss up some steep climb , like The Wall. Had to stop 4 times, but thats ok But the rest of the ride to wawa was perfectus ;D ;D Ted, I'm running a 36/18 gearing. Accdng to the mags(again) ideal gear ratio should be 2:1. Haven't seen straight blade forks for mtb's in 1 1/8" lately. But there are many Kinesis aluminum threadless forks around or Pwede mag-pacustom, like master jun's. Can't sell the db for sentimental reasons...It was Mrsmcvarki's first mtb, heheehe

I just converted my hardtail into a singlespeed. My first ride was a little tough on the hill climbs, but I felt good after I was done. I still have a FS geared bike and the SS is going to make me a stronger climber. I removed my shifters and cables, big ring, small ring, cassette and used all the old parts from my old drivetrain. I only had to purchase shorter chainring bolts and an 18 tooth BMX cog that was compatible with my shimano hub and some spacers (if you want to make spacers from PVC pipe it works and many people have done it successfully). I haven't purchased a tensioner yet, but my old rear derailleur is working as tensioner for now. look in mtbr.com to convert a derailleur into a tensioner.
so far this was done on the cheap, but it all works well. let us know how your project goes.
Bo

mc V,
need your help again:)
the project is in full swing already, drivetrain na lang talaga ang kulang:) i just need to ask kung anong mas ok
on Sprocket:
Is it better to buy a cassette type sprocket and just salvage the 16T gear (or any gear) and use spacers?
Another one is Jane of kings bike is offering me "DA Bomb single speed gear with spacer priced at P650" What do you think of this?
On cranks:
Jane again is offering me 3 speed FSA crank i(in me price range) and told me to just dismantle (again) and just retain the middle ring. what do you think of this?
Or should i go to something that are all dedicated parts for single speed?
Tnx dude. You the man!
so far ive purchase
SR suntour XC75 fork with lockout KHS alite 500 frame with FSA headset alexrim alexhubs alex barbecue avid mecha disc

maximus,
use this:
ganyan din ang gamit ko ;D
and this:
ganyan din ginawa ko ;D ...but you might have to buy shorter chainring bolts or grind the existing ones.
don't forget the chain tensioner..DaBomb din ang brand...or if you want to save money you can use your old derailleur like what wcoastbo did. ...Nah! bili ka na lang ng tensioner ...mas maganda tignan ;D
Ito pinaka important sa lahat: ;D ;D
Dalian mo na yan project mo so we can test it sa next trail ride!
