Hello SS aficionados. I must admit that I am also getting the SS virus that has quietly been spreading along with bikers. I must admit the allure of having a bike with no gears and just your brakes to worry about inspires me. The simplicity of the ride will surely make the trail riding experience more pleasing to the senses.
Speaking of surely...hopefully by late October we will be having SURLY here in the Philippines!! Yup! You got it! Keep your fingers crossed and pray that items do arrive by then.
Please help me get an idea of what SURLY items will be most appreciated (frames, hubs, etc..) by the growing SS market so we can hopefully entice more gearheads to try out what they've been missing all along.
Thanks much in advance! More power to the Filipino biker!!

around how much will the frames be? say the 1x1, cross check or long haul trucker? if they're the same as the US retail price i'd say they would be pretty expensive for what are basically heavy, steel frames that can be custom built locally, but i hope you guys can bring in the single speed parts and accesories (hubs, rings, cogs, tensioners). thanks!

titusx: Surly casette cogs would be nice. I actually emailed some online stores in Canada but they didnt have the 19T on stock. I think it will be popular here since its hard to get a wider base SS cassette cogs. If you can get those 36 click SS hubs I think it would be great too. For one I would prefer an SS hub over a cassette hub for less dishing. Havent seen a surly but woodman, hope etc. perhaps? Theres a local distributor but maybe they are dead. Ofcourse IMHO there is the matter of pricing though, i wouldnt buy those stuff locally if it were priced at US SRP since overhead in the Philippines isnt the same in North America. Its actually a lot lot less. IE King Hubs are cheaper here = cool ...sold less than the SRP (I can't afford though ;D) Santa Cruz here are sold equal to the SRP = sucks ;D

Karate monkey. A good selection of SS cogs would go fast, I think. Tensioners too.
How about non-Surly SS stuff? 29'er forks, rims and tires as well. Hehe. And Mary bars!!!!

Surly has 29er rigid forks As for rims and tires, I think it's just a matter of asking the distributors here (Bontrager, Salsa, Kenda, WTB, Maxxis, Panaracer) to bring them in. The thing is, the demand in the US and Europe is much higher than here...so it's up to the distribs to convince the big companies to send the goodies our way. FWIW, Jamis and GT will be bringing in 29er bikes in 2007. Looks like every major manufacturer has one lined up. As to who'll gain the most market share, it's anyone's guess. Most 29er frames (Surly, Salsa, On-One, etc) are made in Taiwan, so as King said, they should be cheaper. Titusx - have you built up your SS yet? See you on the trails! agu

Thank you all for your valueable inputs. I hear you and will relay your valid concerns to the distributor. Hopefully pricing will not be an issue as most of you have said.
Hi 32by18 yes I have but with just old parts lying around. i basically got a khs alite100 frame and slapped on my old parts. BB7's old wheelset, WTB saddle, FSA stem, Stronglight crank. I'm using a 32x18 as well. Haven't rode it in the trails yet just been around the village whenever my kid and I bike in the afternoons. Tried riding Sta. Rosa using that ratio and boy is it hard but somehow it feels different. Can't put a finger on it but really just doesn't feel the same?
