I've contracted BAS... Bicycle Acquisition Syndrome and need medical attention, or a support group I currently have: 1) 1992 Trek 2500 road bike converted to SS - paid retail for this one, but I was depressed because my Specialized was just stolen 2) 199X Ti Habanero HT converted to SS - the frame was very discounted and couldn't pass on a good deal. besides, I needed a xc bike. 3) 2000 Ellsworth Truth - got great prices because my brother-in-law worked at a bike shop. I need a geared FS bike. 4) 2004 Merlin Magia road bike - I couldn't pass up on another good deal and I needed a light weight climbing bike. 5) 1993 Mongoose HT converted to SS - free! someone was going to throw it away and I needed a beater/commuter/hybrid. 6) 199X Scott HT - Purchased 2nd hand, and I need a bike to ride when I'm visiting Manila. 7) 1994 GT LTS-1 - built this from spare parts, and I need a bike when I'm visiting Polillo Island. I still want a SS 29er, a fixie track bike, DH/FR bike. Or maybe, I need to overcome this illness. How does one overcome BAS? Is there a cure? BTW... I found and old abandoned steel Hardrock. All it needs is some tires and it will be my rigid SS for riding in muddy/rainy days. Number 8 is on the way and it was free! ;D

terminal! haha too funny. actually, I'm down to 7. I gave the scott HT to my wife's cousin. Guess I have to buy another one ;D
It's actually not very hard to justify each new bike.
Owen, - you've owned as many bikes as I have, maybe more... you just have the ability to let them go, as in selling them. I'm learning from you.

i think i also have the same sickness. but let me ask you first. what exactly is a bikeaholic? the one that likes bicycles or the one that loves riding bicycles? the one that does both recalling graeme fife, author of "Tour de France" puts it this way: a. we were inoculated using spokes for needles b. "the one who always massages bicycle ball bearings" or some similar phrase from the book www.amazon.com/gp/product/1840182849/ref=dp_proddesc_1/102-7455952-9648102?%5Fencoding=UTF8&n=283155&v=glancei'm still in denial, please help! bo,jr,weekendrider: the foundations mentioned, do you have 'em here, i mean if you feel like letting go...

Let me give this a shot. The first solution to any addiction is to first realize and accept the facts of your illness. Yes, you have an illness... you have an addiction. But you have realized that and you want to be cured and sticken away with this DISEASE! You have done the hardest part of the journey my friend. The next step is to let go and learn to live you life. Don't let your bikes run your life for you. You are the master of yourself and of your free will. Do not be burdened by this chunks of metal... Let go and be free and along the way to the path of freedom I will help you. Now, I want you to go out and place those bikes in a box and seal it tighly so you may not be tempted to open it again. Then, send it to the address that I will PM you later... These people will take good care of you addiction and you will find yourself free! As a matter of fact, this consult is free of charge. p.s. Send the box ASAP. ;D

owen - your knowledge of all things related to bicycles never ceases to amaze me. a quote from graeme fife's book... wow!
BTW i missed my weekend rides because I was snowboarding. I can honestly say that I felt a bit sad not to be on the bike. All the bikes get ridden regularly and they're available for any PinoyMTBiker members who happen to be visiting LA. Come out and ride with team karma.

bo - i got it as a gift from my nieces, is this fife guy like important? he takes ill regard of Miguel Indurain and portions of his book were like a bad Bulgari perfume (not the blue one), the prose is too flowery!

I've never read any of his works. Then again he's a playwright, not a journalist. Probably why his prose seems "flowery". He must be an avid cyclist because he's written several books on the Tour. I don't think he'll be getting any Pulizer's for his cycling books.

Wcoastbo was referring to Graeme Fife as the "avid cyclist", not Miguel Indurain Back on topic, I feel sorry for your girlfrends/wives who have to deal with your B.A.S., but I guess this is better than G.A.S.

I'm not in the position to disclose this ;D Mat is in denial that he has this bike acquisition syndrome. But I can assure you, between the two of us, we definitely have less bikes compared to the guys here who have BAS real bad;D

just to put things into prespective, two of my bikes are orphans. I do take in strays. one was about to be thrown out and the other was abandoned already (still not ride worthy). If there was a cheap and easy way to get these abandoned bikes to oilman, I'd do so. He has a program where talented riders (but not so fortunate to own a bike) are racing. This is a worthy cause.
