It's the Famous Baguio Flower Festival, the Panagbenga! It's the time of year for brass bands, street-dancing, flower-decked floats, open-air concerts, tourists trampling flowers, traffic-jammed streets, and tripled trash and pollution levels. Like all events of this magnitude, the Panagbenga has its ups and downs. Some enjoy the revelry to the hilt, while others find that the weekend can quickly turn into a nightmare. Here's how to get the most out of the Panagbenga weekend, from a local's point of view: Avoid the crowds. Hit the trails! Grind some dirt beneath your wheels! Woohoo! So satisfying! Feed your brain real fresh air! (A rarity in Baguio's urban jungle, esp. on congested weekends.) Feed your tummy home-made, all-natural trail food. Yum. Enjoy flowers in bloom -- in situ! End the day right: OR, you could always just stay home and watch the madness on tv, from the safety of your couch, potato. ;D Thanks to eats for the photos, eats and boss for the company on the Taloy route, and Team Connoisseur for the impeccable training on what to eat in the outdoors.

Now that looks like a whole lot more fun than the festival...
I'll be in town tomorrow, with a bike, hint hint...

great trail pictures and superb riding form, m'am! we can tell that you and your ride buddies have been MTBiking for quite sometime already ... you all look relaxed going down the technical trails and the captions tell of a person who knows adventure kudos to your group! Im guessing: triathletes ?

it's my first time to experience Panagbenga this year. Great crowd, brass bands, street-dancing, floats, etc. But what was Pichay (a vegetable di ba?) doing in a flower festival with a float of his own and with matching two mascots?!! Next time, let me try the trails. directions please.

Im guessing: triathletes ? Triathletes?!? Nonononono. For my part, I'm too slow! I ride at a turtle's pace, I eat at a turtle's pace, I drink at a turtle's pace, and I think -- well no, nevermind. So even if drinking and eating were triathlon events along with riding, I wouldn't qualify! But thank you so much for the compliments sir!

Thanks for viewing guys! If you want directions to Taloy, just ask the nice guys at Jojit's bikeshop on Legarda road. dayuhan: I'd rather be riding the trails in your territory!

seems the locals prefer to leave the panagbenga celebrations to the tourists ;D how was the ride back? The ride back was EASY and FUN! I've never outgrown the thrill of sitting topload on a jeepney and I hope I never will hehehe ;D But I gather you're a local too sir. How did you enjoy the Panagbenga? Perhaps we'll cross trails sometime. Would be great to ride with ma'am joex, a fellow woman biker. More pedal power to both of you!

Hey Pads! Nice shots! Wish I could experience Panagbenga at least once in my life... BTW, those mean-looking rocks remind me of the Bayabas trail where Ian took us! Does Taloy route pass through that? p.s. RED HORSE ROCKS!!!!

It reminded me a lot of Bayabas too! Maybe if we don't get the timing right for a ride together we should just get together for some red horses ;D

We were supposed to hit the Bayabas trail with them Sunday morning but since it was raining all throughout Saturday night, they opted for a different route. It also rained Sunday morning so the ride was postponed. Heard that a few riders who (presumably) arrived late went ahead thinking they got left behind. Should have gone ahead with the ride as they said that the weather at the trails was fine. @ ms.doright: what day did you do this ride if I may ask?

Hey Pia! Taloy is off Marcos highway and the trails take a different route from Bayabas but they end in the same place: Nangalisan. It reminded me a lot of Bayabas too! Nice trail! If I remember it right, we rode down Naguillan before climbing up to the trailhead of Bayabas. So you usually ride atop the jeep when going back pala, ha? I found the "open top" breeze too cold! haha! AMEN to that. LET'S!!!! ;D

How do you spot the contrarian in a crowd? you don't.
I too hate crowds and completely understand how satisfying your ride must have been. Great pics and the trail mix looks yummy. How about posting your recipe?
