Better get a built bike from the popular brands.. It's easier in the long run.

Better get a built bike from the popular brands.. It's easier in the long run. I agree. Or better yet, try getting inspiration from built bikes of known brands (such as Giant, Santacruz, Trek, Specialized, etc.) falling in that category of all mountain or agressive xc. They're usually spec'd for that use. Look at what components they used. Its available in the internet. ;D

brad, better watch your post, we don't want PinoyMTBiker shutdown because it's not english.
going DH on a hardtail could be pretty jarring. i agree with the posts above, get an AM or an aggressive XC setup. a dedicated DH rig is going to cost a lot. Save up some more for suspension. the chucker is a freeride frame, it can take punishment.

how tight is your budget?
IMHO tight budget doesn't goes well with downhill bikes.

GT Chucker?
brad, I am using GT avalanche and you know what? I already used it at Patiis Sanm Mateo Rizal and at recent race at UPLB.. I'm using a double crown (DNM volcano) and a 2.65 FT and 2.5 at RT...... well actually I am going to upgrade it: pang-FS hehehehehe

ive used once the KHS hardtail for DH.. well its works but it wont give you the feel of DH.. try looking around HARO..
other choices will be FS for DH is a DH spec bike.. as rocketman said.. used the right tool for the right job... magastos nga lang..
so have a good work on weekdays so at the week ends will be DH!!
goodluck

Dh brad is expensive... depends upon how you frequently use your rig... you broke your component during the run, you replace it.... thats what dh is... im on dh but not all my specs are for dh hehe... like what micosabeh said... hes going to upgrade to fs frame.... the butt of his frame got bended during the 2 fast din kami dh competition.... you know how to budget right on your financial matters,,, certified holy diver kna din hehe... ;D
