I don't know if this should be here, Mods, feel free to transfer this thread. Here it goes anyway: I'm planning to build a downhill rig. Obviously, I'm on a tight budget and I'm leaning towards the Mongoose FS frame. Questions po:
1. How much does it cost? 2. Where can I get one? 3. What Rear Shox would be good (6 inches or more)? 4. I'm planning to paint it anod black, who does the best paintjob for a good cost? ;D
Thanks!

actually sir pao ive sold that kind of frame last 2003... original color was silver and it cost around 5k dont know if that frame was still available.... it a good frame for an entry level of DH wannabe. you can use a DMN rear shox with an 7inches eye to eye measurement... weve tested it in a 15 feet drop and the frame was still ok.... heres the link xcore.o-f.com/... the site was too old that we havent maintained it....

just spoke to a DHiller last saturday (Roy) and he introduced trixxy (Pacific Cylce Trixxter) to me... hehe! (although his ride was an Orange). my budget is around 13-15k for the frame. but i'm also considering the vision cruizer (since REDNEB's impression of it was good according to a post i've read here at PinoyMTBiker).

heheeh.... ahhhh the notorious Mr. Cass ..... yes the trixxter is a good "open ur world" bike.... the trixxter was the asian M-1 intense....way back then novices and pros alike armed with trixxters and long travel forks were maxxing out what the trixxter can do.... it was a "decade bike"...... old school gravity freaks know the technic of curing the botttoming of the trixxter... hehehe get a stiffer spring.... then lower your top tube height.... thus allowing the rearshock n fork to absorb big landing impacts equally and distribute it equally...( it only bottoms if you land rear first)...wahehehehehehehe....
Trixxters work well if u like goin down.... but if u plan on goin up with ur rig and back down?.. well...........
the Vision cruizer just might work well for u...... its a good balanced AM/FR bike but just dont go too fast on the nasty stuff cuz.... its advantage in weight reduction is its disadvantage at high speeds..... but the suspension design is a two thumbs up performer.... its plush and very active ...and this can be enhanced with the correct choice of rearshock brand and tuning....

congrats.... good pick.. the shawn H-3 motolink (ASTRIX Hucker internationally knowned)... the stock OEM rear shock for that bike is a 6-way manitou SPV.... and it delivers solid 8 inches of rear travel...... plus the CPA Controlled Parallel Arm linkage design is a winner when it comes to big hit travel.........
good choice mga brad.........
im not brand bashing the fireball or mongoose or anything.... but its a really crappy bike.... i mean ur gna spend money on a dh rig? d ba? so myt as well help u spend on the right thing once..... rather than spending over n over till u get the right thing....
cuz evry one wants to get what their money's worth and enjoy that thing....... cuz once you start filling up your bodega with old bike parts that are unsellable .... thats when the wife goes "Andami naman kalat nyan! ano ba yan bikeshop o junkshop!"....see! hahahahahahaha
thats why its a whole lot more economical to research over the internet vs trying to learn the ropes n needs of the DH rider.

6way manitou spv??? i got mine stock with a DNM Burner RC... crappy shox...tsk tsk... ( coz i got a dhx 3.0 now! hahaha) yeah kinda heavy but its purpose is for riding brad not carrying...hehehe but once youve got to try that on big jumps and hucks, you might say its fairly light.... that's what i've notice on that frame....wuite heavy but when youre up in the air, quite light.hehehe

the design of the rear moto-linkage makes the bike look cumbersome and heavy, its just the beefy linkage points... but its actually light if u match it with lighter components... and yes its a very huckable bike.. hence its original name the ASTRIX Hucker... hehehe.....
if u plan on using it for Freeriding... just get 36t single plate crank an 888rc then ur all set.... heheheh
but then again this bike is also good for racing..... fit a 40t or 44t mrp crank then a boxxer fork and its race ready...
and then again a 66rc fork on DHX 5.0 air with singletrack rims a 2.5tires on double chainrings and a 50mm stem ............................"Can climb, Will Descend"
hehehehe.... very versatile frame.... even if u upgrade to a new dh bike, u'll never run out of uses for yer old Shawn H-3.....

WoW! So many uses! Versatile indeed! ;D my current setup right now is 40T plate crank and stock DNM burner and Marz Jr. T. I guess my set-up is for racing. hehe! just upgrade the RC.

by the way redneb, what is the real or ideal position of the lingkage? because i noticed it when the linkage's form is ( rear tire < front tire) the bike sits up and when i position the linkage on the opposite direction ( rear tire > front tire) the bike tends to lower down. ( parang bumababa yung bike at humahaba kung ang linkage nya ay pabaliktad naman. by the way, yung > o < ay yung posisyon ng linkage sa frame.) sorry mods, cant seem to explain well in english. hehehe

mine is >. talaga? pwede bang ibahin yung linkage para makapaglagay ng mas magabang shox? (tans: really? can the liknage be modified to > or < so a longer rear shox can be installed?)

yes but the linkage eye-eye does not change so u tend to push the bike < , and longer shox dsnt necessarilly mean longer travel... Suspension designs have a "stroke limit".. for example: the H-3 can be fitted with a 9.25 i2i dhx5.0.... but still the eyelets of the rear shock are 9.25" hence u get your 8" travel... if you tilt the standover angle by mounting a longer shock? well your gna fk up your bike.... heheheh its gna bob and bottom early....... these bikes were designed with spec limits.... and i think the 2 positions on the h-3 linkage are used for selecting if ur using a long travel triple crown fork you go > and if for single crown <..... im not sure i think i read it somewhere... just check the astrix website.... hehehe
hehehe.....

cool!! hehehe my set up is rear tire < front tire. i use 888 vf 180 mm travel on the front and fox dhx3.0 at the rear (and 5 fingered waray-waray suspension way up on the brain. hehehe) im gonna try this week riding the opposite linkage but im afraid it might bottom out on drops but i'm thinking that it will be more stable because the bike is more longer now with < set up than the > set up.... hehehe but still, i dont know. i guess theres no harm in experimenting. hehehe

malakas-have u seen gerry of majayjay's generic mongoose? he modified it, put an extra linkage and put an 8.5" eye to eye rear shox. roann d'face calatin used it during haooh's fun run in patiis and boy that d@mn bike works. roann was the first placer beating named bikes like glory, comencal, etc. i think he's going to put a break therapy on his rig, hehe
